William Paul Sharp Jr.

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of William Paul Sharp, Jr. A beloved family member, friend, and member of the community, Paul left us peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, integrity, and unwavering support for those he loved. Born on May 29, 1949, in Ahoskie, NC to William Paul, Sr. and Doris Sharp. Paul was nurtured with affection and sound principles and carried those traits throughout his life, touching the hearts of everyone he encountered. Paul’s presence was marked by his generosity, sense of humor, and ability to listen without judgment. Paul was a graduate of Ahoskie High School and North Carolina State University where he played both quarterback and fullback on the football teams. During his time at Ahoskie High School, Paul distinguished himself as a multi-sport athlete, earning varsity letters in four different sports over each of the four years. He was the most valuable player in 1966 in the North Carolina Shrine Bowl game. At North Carolina State, he was awarded the most valuable player during his freshman year for the freshman football team. Paul also organized and led the first chapter of Fellowship of Christian Athletes at North Carolina State University. After graduating from NCSU, Paul joined Collins and Aikman, a supplier of automotive carpets and fabrics. He was employed with Collins and Aikman for forty eight years and within that time he spent most of his career as International Sales Manager. Paul was a member of Duke Memorial Methodist Church in Durham, NC. Along with his parents, Paul is preceded in death by his sister, Jayme Lawerence. Paul is survived by his wife, Sherri Blalock Sharp; sons Ryan Sharp (Katie), Scott Sharp (Jenny) and their mother Janet Ramsey Eury: brother, Mark Sharp (Vicky); grandchildren, Tallula, Olivia, and Rhodes; along with nieces and nephews. Paul was a dedicated professional, respected for his hard work and commitment. He brought the same passion to his hobbies, whether enjoying golf, cheering on his favorite teams, distance running and listening to all genres of music. A good example of his tenacity, strength and dedication in fighting his Parkinson’s disease was his ability to persevere and win his local senior golf tournament at his home golf club while battling this disease. Above all, he cherished moments spent with family and friends, always putting others before himself. He is survived by loving family members and countless friends who will miss his warmth, wisdom, and steady guidance. Paul’s memory will inspire compassion and gratitude in those who knew him. Paul’s memorial service will be Wednesday, December 17, 2025 at 2PM in the Summersett Memorial Chapel with Rev. Jim Parsons officiating.
