Sue Hartman Rufty

Sue Hartman Rufty, 81 of Salisbury, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, July 4, 2018 from Glenn A. Kiser Hospice House. Born in Rowan County on November 27, 1936, she was the daughter of the late John Oren Hartman, Sr. and Ruby Parrish Hartman. Sue graduated from Boyden High School – Class of 1955 and then graduated from Life Bible College – Class of 1959, receiving her degree in Christian Education Work and Ministries. She moved to California in 1959 and worked in Christian Education until 1980. Then from 1980-1988, she taught mostly Old Testament at Mt. Vernon in Ohio. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by one sister, Loris Faye Morgan and her loving husband, Norman Richard Rufty, Sr. whom she married on August 10, 1992 in Gatlinburg, TN. Sue was a devoted, faithful Christian lady, who loved God and loved her entire family. She attended Central Baptist Church in Kannapolis. Those left to cherish her memory are her step-sons, Norman “Richard” Rufty, Jr. (Shirley Jean), and Carl Lewis Rufty; her step-daughter, Linda Rufty Miller (Tony); one brother, John Oren Hartman, Jr. (Sandy); two sisters, Betty Hartman Rhodes of High Point, and Ruby Hartman Whitman “Squeaky” (John) of Vancouver, Washington. She is further survived by three grandchildren, Angelia Rufty Mabe, Lauren Miller Jones (Brian) and Steven Rufty Miller (Katie); five great-grandchildren, Trent Mabe, Troy Mabe, Ellie Jones, Luke Miller and Kennedy Miller; and nephews and nieces, David Hartman (Misty), Kevin Whitman (Kim), Gary Whitman (Tracy), Lowell Rhodes (Lea), Greg Rhodes, Rusty Morgan, Angela Argueta, Debbie Young (Pete) and Shari Morgan. The family will receive friends at Central Baptist Church, Saturday, July 7, 2018 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM. The funeral service will follow in the church sanctuary beginning at 1:00 PM with Pastor Curtis Parker and Pastor Dean Hunter officiating. Burial will follow at Chestnut Hill Cemetery.
