Shirley Young

Shirley Young, Age 90 entered into her eternal rest on July 19, 2026, at the Lash Health and Rehabilitation Center. She had been in declining health for approximately 6 months. Shirley was born on December 15, 1935, in Wilkes County, NC to parents Jesse Glenn Walker and Frances Wadkins Walker. She, later, married and moved to Rowan County, NC and resided there until her death. She was employed during her lifetime by Holly Farms, Mason’s Department Store, Pittsburgh Plate Glass, and she retired from The General Electric Company. Shirley was a voracious reader and loved word games, and Jeopardy. She had a quick mind, cooking, flowers, and bird watching. She also took many beach trips and liked going to yard and estate sales when she was younger. She loved football games and was a Carolina Panthers fan. She was a years-long member of Yadkin Methodist Church. She had several beloved dogs that kept her company in her senior years. Honey, Little Bit, Rufus, and Laddie were her all her favorites. The foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains have always meant home to Shirley. Now, she is seeing the wondrous hills, and mountains of Heaven, and is, truly, home with the Lord. Predeceasing her is her youngest son Terry Wayne Miller and two siblings, Stewart Monroe Walker, Allen Glenn Walker. Those left to cherish her memory are her children: John Miller (Terri), Sherry Stroude (Tommy) Nanette Shinn (James) and siblings: Gary Walker, Judy McNeil, Elaine Davidson, and Bertha Hilton; grandchildren: Donnie Shinn, Jason Shinn, Shane Miller, Holly Miller and grandchild: Genevieve Miller The family would like to thank the staff at Lash Health and Rehabilitation Center, and Trellis Supportive Care for their, attentive, nursing care, especially, during the last days and weeks of declining illness. Pastor Darrell Worley will officiate a Celebration of Life Graveside Service will be held at Rowan Memorial Park Mausoleum on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, at 2:00pm.
