Samuel Lee Hoffman Sr.

Mr. Samuel Lee Hoffman, Sr., 91, passed away peacefully at Novant Health Glenn A. Kiser Hospice House on March 29, 2025, in his hometown of Salisbury. Born in 1934, Sam was the 10th of 11 children born to parents, Henry Arthur Hoffman, Sr. and Ruth Cornelison Hoffman. He shared 67 wonderful years with his beloved wife, Barbara Sue Stone Hoffman, who preceded him in death. Together they raised a loving family that brought them immense pride and joy. Siblings who preceded Sam in death were David Hoffman, Sr. (Mary Alma), Ruth Elizabeth “Sis” Williams (Jack), Henry Arthur Hoffman, Jr. (Dot), Martha Estelle Kennerly (John), James Pete Hoffman (Lori), Joyce Morefield (Fred), Eleanor Atwell Balestrino (Tony), Charles Alfred Hoffman, Sr. (Lil), Ann Hargis (Chuck), Mary Patricia Safrit (Ernest) Sam graduated from Boyden High School in the class of 1952 and went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business from Catawba College in 1960. His education laid the foundation for a long and successful career marked by dedication and integrity. Sam began his professional journey in sales at Piedmont Mill Supply in Salisbury. In 1970, he joined Spotnails, Inc. as a regional sales representative and later advanced to Fasco America in 1984 as a national sales representative. Known for his strong work ethic and personable nature, Sam built lasting relationships throughout his career before retiring at the age of 73. A proud veteran, Sam served three years in the United States Marine Corps. He was stationed at Kaneohe Bay on Oahu, Hawaii, where he attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. His time in the service remained an important chapter of his life and reflected his deep sense of duty and discipline. Sam was a devoted member of Milford Hills Baptist Church, where he found spiritual strength and community throughout his life. He is survived by his children: sons Samuel “Sandy” Lee Hoffman, Jr. (Julia) and Kenneth Marc Hoffman (Anne Cote), and daughter Barbara Diane Hoffman (Mark Weddington). His legacy continues through his grandchildren: Lauren Hoffman Pilger (Brian), Nicholas A. Hoffman (Melisa), Nathan A. Hoffman (Annika), Crystal Johnson Friece (Tim), Jeremy K. Johnson (Renee), and August Ruth Hoffman; as well as great-grandchildren: Judah Pilger, Shiloh Pilger, Isaiah Hoffman, Aaron Hoffman, Patience Hoffman, Benjamin Hoffman, Joy Hoffman, Henry Hoffman, Madison Friece, Piper Friece, and Kylee Johnson. Outside of work and family life, Sam found joy in listening to Italian opera; restoring his cherished 1955 Chevrolet truck; and bird hunting. Those who knew Sam remember him as generous-hearted with an extremely quick wit. He approached life with diligence and humility—a hard worker. A funeral service honoring Sam’s life will be held at 1PM on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, at Summersett Chapel located at 1315 W. Innes St., Salisbury, NC 28144.
