Richard Hudson, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, passed away peacefully at home on May 28, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was 77 years old. Born on April 19, 1948, in Elizabeth, New Jersey, Richard lived a life defined by strength, precision, and passion. He proudly served his country in the Vietnam War, where he was awarded the Bronze Star for his heroic service—a chapter that shaped his resilience and deepened his appreciation for freedom, family, and hard work. After returning home, Richard built a life not only for his family but also for himself through entrepreneurial grit. Meticulous by nature and driven by vision, he approached every venture with integrity and care, earning the admiration of those who worked alongside him. After retiring and moving to Salisbury, North Carolina in 2014, Richard became a valued member of the community. He proudly served on the board of the Millers Ferry Fire Department, continuing his lifelong commitment to service and leadership. Richard was never one to sit still for long. He and his beloved wife, Barbara, shared a deep love of travel and adventure. Over the years, they explored the world together—collecting memories, sharing laughter, and embracing the beauty of life’s journey side by side. Their travels were more than just trips; they were chapters in a love story filled with discovery, joy, and unwavering companionship. He was never happier than when surrounded by loved ones—especially at the lake, where so many treasured memories were made. Whether it was long afternoons by the water with Barbara, his children, and grandchildren, peaceful boat rides in the evening, or simple time spent together, those moments became the heartbeat of his family life. Equally important to him were the friendships he nurtured over the years. Richard never missed a good card game. Whether he was playing to win or simply enjoying the company of those around him, the table was always filled with his sharp wit, good-natured competitiveness, and infectious laugh. More than anything, Richard’s greatest pride was always his family. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who gave thoughtful advice, listened deeply, and celebrated even the smallest victories of those he loved. He had a way of making everyone feel seen, valued, and cared for. His wisdom, steady presence, and gentle humor enriched every family gathering—from backyard barbecues to holiday dinners. He is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Barbara; his two sons, Jeffrey Hudson (Emily) and Kevin Hudson (Amiee); his brothers, Jennings Hudson (Anne) and Thomas Hudson; his in-laws, Tom and Patty Paffrath and Nancy Swisstack; and his four grandchildren—Braxton, Madison, Wyatt, and Rhyland—who will carry his legacy forward with integrity, curiosity, and love. Richard will be deeply missed and forever remembered—for his service, his adventurous spirit, his precision, and most of all, his love. The service will be conducted 10 a.m. Tuesday (June 3) at First Presbyterian Church, Salisbury. The family will receive friends following the service. (11 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.) Burial will follow at 12:30 p.m. at Salisbury National Cemetery.
