Mrs Rebecca Reitz McKinley

Rebecca Reitz McKinley, age 78, of Salisbury passed away Tuesday, September 3 at her residence. Mrs. McKinley was born in Brookville, PA the daughter of the late Helen June Shafer and William Orlando Reitz. She was educated in the Lebanon Valley College where she majored in Music. She was active in many civic activities which included Meals on Wheels and hospital volunteer for over 20 years, Piedmont players, where she was a board member and a presidential term along with 16 starring roles. Member of the Board of Water Works Visual Arts Center, Member and Soloist with the Concert Choir, Rotary Lady, Salisbury Symphony Soloist which was the highlife of her life. Instrumental in the development of the Merony Theater, Catawba board of Visitors, Multiple Bridge clubs, Member of several book clubs and was an avid reader. She supported Rowan County Board of Realtors, Local Car Dealers, Movie Theaters and local two digit restaurant on Innes St. Becca was active in Church, she started singing solos at the age of 12 with Church events, Former Deacon First Presbyterian Church in York, PA prior to moving to Salisbury in the 70’s. While a member of First Presbyterian Church she started the Progressive Dinner and Couples Club. She chaired and hosted many social events throughout her faith journey and was a Member of the First United Methodist Church of Salisbury. She was preceded in death by her brothers Richard and William Reitz. She will truly be missed as she was the topic of many loving discussions within our family. She is survived by sons Rick McKinley (Andrea) of High Point and Jere McKinley (Jetana) of Cary; daughter Carol McKinley Myers (Fred) Duluth, GA; sister Anne Goetzenberger (Ted) of Fairfield, PA; grandchildren Randon Myers, Rebecca Myers, Mark McKinley, Justin McKinley, Megan McKinley, Chandler McKinley, Maddie McKinley and Connor McKinley; dogs Jason and the “infamous” Gabe. Visitation will be held Friday, September 6, from 10-11:00 AM and a Memorial Service at 11:00 AM Friday at Summersett Memorial Chapel conducted by Rev. Steven Haines. A Musical Celebration will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to your favorite charity in memory of Becca McKinley.
