Peggy Marlene Finley Harris

Mrs. Peggy Marlene Finley Harris passed away peacefully at Glenn A. Kiser Hospice House, Salisbury, NC on Saturday, November 5, 2022 after a short illness. She was born July 29, 1938 to Thomas Blaine and Eula Mae Owens Finley in Welch, West Virginia and lived in Damascus and Abingdon, Virginia until 1970 when she moved to Salisbury, NC. She married her high school sweetheart, James Charles Harris on August 4, 1957 in Damascus, VA shortly before Mr. Harris entered Lees-McRae College to play football. Mrs. Harris stayed in Damascus, VA and worked at the Bank of Damascus to support herself and her husband until he received his degree from Emory and Henry College in 1961. She was a devoted wife until Mr. Harris’ death on February 3, 2017. Mrs. Harris was a loving mother and grandmother. Those left to cherish her memory are her children: Marcia Harris Haddock (Jack), Davidson, NC; James Michael (Mike) Harris (Betsy), Statesville, NC; and Elizabeth Harris Sollecito (Michael), Roanoke, VA and her grandchildren: James Michael Harris II and wife Caitlin Stubner, Nashville, TN; Christiana Marlene (Marlee) Harris and husband Benjamin Warwick, Knoxville, TN; Mary Katherine Harris and husband Samuel Gruenig, Matthews, NC; John Edward Haddock, Jr., Huntersville, NC; and Meredith Caroline Haddock, Davidson, NC; Michael Anthony Sollecito and Allison Marie Sollecito, Roanoke, VA. She is also survived by her sister, Betty Repass from Mt. Juliet, TN and sister-in-law, Patsy Bridgeman (Tony), Concord, NC. She was also blessed by a great number of special nieces and nephews, as well as their children. Mrs. Harris loved serving and traveling with her husband and his entire State Farm Insurance District Agents on both district trips to various states and company trips around the world. She also enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and Europe with her husband after his retirement in 1995. Mrs. Harris also enjoyed many trips to the beach with family and friends. Mrs. Harris loved her church, Milford Hills United Methodist Church in Salisbury, NC, where she served in various positions of leadership in the United Methodist Women, was honored as the Milford Hills United Methodist Woman of the Year, served on many committees, as well as in the church handbell choir, called “The Joybelles.” She and her husband also served with the church’s visitation team called the “Cheergivers” for many years. Mrs. Harris will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who was devoted to her family and cherished all of the time she had with them. She loved playing Bridge and Hand & Foot card games within the Salisbury community and at Trinity Oaks. She will be sorely missed by her children, grandchildren, her beloved dog, Trixie, and all who knew and loved her. Amidst their grief, the family wishes to thank all who served Mrs. Harris at Trinity Oaks, her medical team at Rowan Medical Center, Salisbury, NC and care team at Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center, Charlotte, NC. Graveside services will be held at 11:00AM Wednesday, November 9, 2022 at Rowan Memorial Park Cemetery mausoleum with Rev. Jim Parsons of Milford Hills United Methodist Church officiating.
