Mrs. Patricia "Patsy" Arey Beard

Patricia “Patsy” Arey Beard, of Salisbury and Blowing Rock, NC passed away May 15, 2016 at Genesis Healthcare Salisbury Center. Born March 14, 1924 in Salisbury, she was the daughter of the late Richard Whitehead Arey and Doris Owen Arey. Mrs. Beard attended Salisbury city schools and graduated from Boyden High School and attended Catawba College. She was on the cheerleading squad at both schools. Mrs. Beard was a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church, the Salisbury Country Club and the Blowing Rock Country Club. She served many years on the St. Luke's Altar Guild and the Rowan Memorial Hospital Ladies Auxiliary. Mrs. Beard was also active in Rowan Museum Antique Show. Mrs. Beard was an avid bridge player and reader. She was a charter member of the Symposium Book Club and participated regularly until she became ill in January. Mrs. Beard enjoyed all the festivities of the Annual Blowing Rock Horse Show, loved spending the summers in the mountains with her many friends. She always enjoyed talking on the phone and watching the birds. Mrs. Beard was preceded in death by her husband, Alexander Patterson “Pat” Beard and her brother, Richard Whitehead Arey, Jr. She is survived by her daughters, Cameron Beard Hall and husband Bill of Mount Ulla, Sally Beard Smith and husband Gregory of Salisbury, one grandchild, Patricia Smith Grubb and husband Zach of Salisbury and nephew Bryce Parker Beard, III. She is also survived by numerous nephews and nieces, best friends Karen Hobson, Page Parsons, Clyde, and 7 granddogs. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 – Monday, May 23rd at Chestnut Hill Cemetery with the Reverend Stacey Steck, pastor of Thyatira Presbyterian Church, officiating. Following the service the family will receive friends at the home of Sally and Gregory Smith, 515 Goodnight Road, Salisbury, NC 28147 In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Nazareth Children’s Home in Rockwell, NC. The family would like to thank the staff, nurses and CNA's on the 100 hall of Genesis Healthcare for their kindness and love. Summersett Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
