Mary "Darlene" Yarbrough Drye

Mary “Darlene” Yarbrough Drye, 96, of Salisbury, passed away Wednesday, March 2, 2022 at Novant Health Rowan Medical Center. Born June 20, 1925 in Rowan County, she was the daughter of the late Vera Morgan Yarbrough Horton and John William Yarbrough. She was educated in the Salisbury City schools and was a homemaker. She was a life-long member of Park Avenue United Methodist Church, where she served on the administrative board for many years as well as a member of the United Methodist Women. She enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren; participating in church activities, gardening, and reading. In her younger years she enjoyed participating in a bowling league and winning many trophies. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Howard Drye, Sr. on March 3, 1997; sons-in-law, C.G. Trexler, Jr. and Tex C. Lyerly; great-granddaughter, Lillian Kasey Trexler; brother, John W. Yarbrough Jr.; sisters, Janet Wilson and Betty Lou McIntyre. Left to cherish her memory are her son, Roy H. Drye, Jr. of Salisbury; daughters, Patsy Drye Lyerly of Salisbury, Linda Drye Trexler (Robert) of Elizabethtown, KY, Katherine Drye Litaker of Salisbury; grandchildren, Lisa T. Clement (Tim), Bradley Trexler, Ashley T. Kesler (Luke), Matthew E. Litaker (Julie), Joseph A. Litaker, Amanda E. Litaker (Mike Jaskolka); great-grandchildren, Emily C. Carney (Alex), Gavin T. Clement, Landon D. Kesler, Noah B. Trexler, Corbin L. Kesler, Maggie K. Litaker, Charlotte S. Litaker, Chelsea L. Trexler (Colton), Chase Lyerly; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was anxiously awaiting the birth of her first great-great grandchild who would make five generations of first born daughters. The family will receive friends 12-1 p.m. Tuesday (March 8th) at Summersett Funeral Home. The funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. in the Summersett Memorial Chapel with Pastor Rick N. Carney officiating. Burial will follow at Rowan Memorial Park.
