Martha Lyerly Deal

Martha Lyerly Deal, 91, of Woodleaf, passed away on Tuesday, April 16, 2024 at Trinity Oaks Health and Rehab. Born on March 4, 1933 in Rowan County, she was the daughter of the late John Wiley Lyerly and Addie Lee House Lyerly. She graduated from Woodleaf High School in 1951. Martha was employed as the Secretary of Woodleaf Elementary School for many years. She was also a homemaker and seamstress. She enjoyed making wonderful pound cakes, pimento cheese, and chicken salad. Martha loved taking care of and spending time with her family. Martha was a member of Unity Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed taking trips with the Joy Club. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Robert B. (Bobby) Deal on August 31, 2001; a brother, John Robert Lyerly; a twin sister, Margaret Lyerly Douglas; and a Great-Grandson, Austin Mowery. Those left to cherish her memory are daughters, Deborah Deal Link (Reid) of Salisbury, Gail Deal Rector (David) of Salisbury, and Traci Deal of Woodleaf; sisters, Betty Jo Blume of Salisbury, Jane Dyson of Salisbury; grandchildren: Michael Rector (Emily) of Salisbury, Laura Rector Mowry (Allen) of Salisbury, Stephen Link of Salisbury, Heather Link Burris (James) of Raleigh; and great-grandchildren: Madison Mowry and Olivia Rector of Salisbury. The family would like to express our sincere thanks to all of her care-givers, Lisa R., Annette, Hailey, Amber, Kayla, Lisa H., Margie, Valarie and Pat. Also, to the staff of A Hall at Trinity Oaks Health and Rehab we say “Thank You” for all that you did for our mom. We really appreciate all of you and everything that you do. The family will receive friends at the home of Reid and Debbie Link. A visitation will be held from 2-3 PM Saturday (April 20) at Unity Presbyterian Church. The funeral service will follow at 3 PM at Unity Presbyterian Church with burial following in the church cemetery.
