Mr. Mark Thomas Thompson

Mark Thomas Thompson, 51, of Salisbury died on Tuesday, October 27th, 2015, at the Liberty Lane Hospice house following a 13 month battle with cancer. He was born on June 6, 1964, in Salisbury, NC. Mark was married to Debbie Adams Thompson for 27 years and was a devoted father to four adult children: William (Andrew) Thompson of Salt Lake City, Utah; Katie Thompson Clemmer (Joe) of Linwood, NC; Lindsay Thompson, Campbell University School of Pharmacy, Buies Creek, NC, and Carrie Thompson, Moody Bible Institute, Chicago, Illinois. He is also survived by his mother, Katherine A. Thompson, Winston-Salem, NC, his father, Thomas A. Thompson, Statesville, NC, one sister, Beth Correro (Vincent), four nieces, one great-nephew, and a great niece. Mark served nearly six years on active duty serving God and country as a US Army Chaplain Assistant. Assigned to the 25th Infantry Division (Tropic Lightning), Schofield Barracks, Hawaii, he deployed to Operation Orient Shield (Japan), Operation Team Spirit (Korea), and Operation Cobra Gold (Thailand). He re-enlisted with the 240th QM Battalion “Proud to Serve” during the Desert Shield/Desert Storm era. He then left active duty to work at the W.G. (Bill) Hefner VA, serving veterans in a variety of positions throughout the medical center and in the community, most recently with Home Based Primary Care. He received his nursing education at Forsyth Technical Community College, The State University of New York, and Winston-Salem State University. Prior to active duty, Mark received civilian education at Word of Life Bible Institute and School of Youth Ministry, Pottersville, New York, studying abroad for a semester in Kenya, East Africa and participating in an inner city internship in New York City. He attended Salisbury-Rowan schools prior to graduating from North Hills Christian School. Mark was a member of Meadowview Reformed Presbyterian Church, 1 Graceway Drive, off of Odell Owen Road, Lexington, NC. A visitation will be held from 12:30-2 PM Friday (Nov 6) at Summerset Funeral Home, West Innes Street, Salisbury. The family will gather graveside at 2 PM Friday (Nov. 6) at the U.S. National Cemetery/VA Main Campus. Military Honors will be conducted by the Rowan County Veterans Honor Guard. A memorial service is scheduled for 11 AM Saturday (Nov. 7) at Meadowview Reformed Presbyterian Church in Lexington, NC.
