Jonathan "Jon" David Davis

Jonathan "Jon" David Davis, 58, went to be with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on March 9, 2026. Born on May 8, 1967, in Salisbury, North Carolina, Jon was the son of Robert Monroe Davis, Sr. and Mary Anne Austin Davis,. He was committed to serving others in Jesus’ name following the example of his parents. Jon graduated from Catawba College, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Communications. Committed to lifelong learning, he went on to earn a Master of Divinity with Biblical Languages and a Master of Theology, both from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, where he was also a member of the Evangelical Theological Society. As a lifelong learner, he pursued further doctoral studies until his journey with glioblastoma began. It was during his time at Catawba College that Jon met the love of his life, Lynette Weber. On July 8, 1989, the two were married, beginning a union of nearly 38 years. Lynette walked alongside him through every season of ministry, and together they raised four children: Lauren, J.D., Josh, and Jachin. Above all else, Jon loved his family endlessly. Before answering the call to ministry, Jon built a career on the football field - beginning as a graduate assistant coach at Temple University and later joining Charleston Southern University in 1991 as an assistant football coach and offensive coordinator. That same year, Jon and Lynette made the move to Charleston, where he would go on to pastor Summit Church in Charleston for nearly three decades, faithfully shepherding a congregation he loved deeply until his passing. Like Jesus, he met and loved people where they were, sharing the gospel of Christ. Jon dedicated more than 30 years of his life to Charleston Southern University, where he served in a number of academic and ministerial positions to include Campus Minister, Associate Dean of Students, Director of the Whitfield Center for Christian Leadership, and Associate Vice President for Spiritual Life. He devoted himself wholeheartedly to ministering to students and staff. In June 2021, Jon was diagnosed with multiform glioblastoma (stage 4). For years, he faced his illness with the faith and courage that defined his ministry while undergoing treatment at MUSC Hollings Cancer Center. He continued his ministry throughout his treatment, pointing others to Christ in his most difficult hours. He walked in the light, knowing that Christ triumphs over darkness and the brokenness of this world. Jon is survived by his beloved wife, Lynette Davis; his father and mother-in-law, Bob and Eileen Weber; his children, Lauren Davis Sibrava (Zach), Jonathan David (J.D.) Davis Jr. (Emma Grace), Joshua (Josh) Davis (Lindsey), and Jachin Davis; his grandchildren, Ashtin Baylee Sibrava, Thaddeus Boaz Sibrava, and Jonathan David (Jon David) Davis III; his siblings, James Davis, Jennifer Davis Hammond (Eric), Robert (Rob) Weber (Jackie), Chris and Jackie Crane, and Robert M. Davis Jr.; his nephews, James (Jimbo) Davis (Erika), Josh Drye, Gray Davis, Bryant Davis, Luke Weber, and Liam Weber; and his nieces, Jordan-Leigh Davis Frank (Ashton), Mary Drye Alkanani (Aimon), Victoria Jeter Mauney (Josh), Janet Hammond, Kyla Winder, Ava Weber, Brooke Weber, and Madelynn Castor. In addition to his parents, Jon was preceded in death by his sister, Janet Davis Jeter, and nieces, Elizabeth Weber and Olivia Weber. The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to Dr. Nathan Rowland, Dr. Scott Lindhorst, Dr. Charlotte Rivers, and the entire staff at MUSC Hollings Cancer Center. These individuals provided exceptional compassion and care throughout his journey. His celebration of life service will be held at First Baptist Church of Salisbury on Friday, March 13, 2026, at 11 AM. A visitation will be held prior to the funeral service at First Baptist Church from 9:30 AM to 11 AM. Immediately following the service will be a committal at Rowan Memorial Park. A second celebration will be held at Charleston Southern University in Lightsey Chapel on March 14, 2026 at 4 PM. A visitation will be held prior to the service from 2-4 PM.
