John Clark Dry

John Clark Dry, 88 of Salisbury passed away Friday, February 12, 2010 at Genesis Healthcare. Born April 4, 1921 in Rowan County, he was the son of the late Jones A. and Nancy Louise Horah Dry. Mr. Dry was educated in the Granite Quarry schools and Electrical School with Southern Railway. He was an electrician for Southern Railway and Norfolk Southern Railroad for 43 years before retiring. A member of Dunn’s Mountain Baptist Church where he served on the Board of Deacons and was presented with the Lifetime Deacons Award. He served as Sunday School Superintendent and Secretary, Church Trustee, and was on the Usher staff. One of the original volunteers of the NC Transportation Museum where he served on the Board of Directors and was named Director Emeritus from the State of North Carolina Executive Department and served on a train crew. He was a member of the Granite Quarry Civitan Club, was a Civitan Medallion Member for 25 years of service and received the Foundation Fellow Award. He supported all Civitan projects and programs, and he was happiest at the NC Transportation Museum and when he was farming. He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Digh Dry on Feb. 25, 2007; sisters, Mildred D. Kluttz, Frances D. Fink, Peggy D. Cooke, and a brother, Roy H. Dry Survivors include his daughters, Nancy D. Alexander and Judy D. (Rick) Kepley of Salisbury, Sharon D. (Kailash) Gaggar of Spartanburg, SC; brother, Bobby J. Dry of Mableton, GA; grandchildren, Kevin (April) Alexander, Greg (Debby) Alexander, Keely (Jamie) Troutman, Melanie Trexler, Richmond (Angie) Trexler, Natasha Gaggar, Rebecca (Toby) Bigelow, Glenda (Sam) Hightower; 15 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 AM – Monday at Dunn’s Mountain Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Kenneth Lance, minister of the First Baptist Church of Salisbury officiating. Mr. Dry will lie in state 30 minutes before the service. Interment will follow at Dunn’s Mountain Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 PM Sunday at the Summersett Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to NC Transportation Museum Foundation, 411 S.
