Debra Carol Rogers Goodman

Debra Carol Rogers “Debbie” Goodman, 61, of Salisbury passed away Wednesday, October 31, 2012, at her home. Born June 8, 1951, in Rowan County, she is the daughter of Carol Barber Rogers Johnson of Lexington and the late Faris Rogers. Debbie was a 1969 graduate of West Davidson High School in Lexington where she was a cheerleader and was 1968 Miss West Davidson, representing her school in the Davidson County Fair Queen Pageant. She was formerly employed at Food Lion, Inc. and Salisbury Surgical. Debbie was of the Methodist faith and was a member of Greer’s Chapel Methodist Church in Linwood. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her step-father, Jim Johnson and father-in-law, Clarence Goodman. Those left to cherish her memory, in addition to her mother, are her husband Timothy W. Goodman, whom she married December 22, 1990; son, Zachary Kyle Thompson and wife Cassie of Salisbury; daughter, Christy Thompson Leonard and fiancé’, Ron Richardson of Lexington; granddaughter, Lauren Leonard and fiancé Jonathan Reid; sister, Jaudon Cline and husband Wayne of Salisbury; brothers, Cameron Rogers and wife Judy of Salisbury, Sandy Rogers and wife Lynn of Cary, IL; mother-in-law, Geraldine Goodman of Kannapolis; brothers-in-law, Jeff and Ben Goodman of Kannapolis; sister-in-law, Ann Peschel and husband Matt of Indian Trail; son-in-law, Scott Leonard of Lexington. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews, and a host of cousins, aunts, and uncles who all meant so much to her! Debbie was also blessed with so many friends, who were each like family. Also special to her was her dog, Lilly. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Friday, November 2, 2012 at Summersett Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 AM (Nov. 3) at Greer’s Chapel United Methodist Church, Linwood, with the Rev. Renee Easter, officiating. Interment will follow at Greer’s Chapel Methodist Church Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Rowan Hospice and Palliative Care, 720 Grove St., Salisbury, NC 28144 or the American Diabetes Association, 222 S. Church St., Suite 336M, Charlotte, NC 28202. The family would like to give a special thanks to Rowan Hospice and Palliative Care for their care and assistance during these last months and also thanks the staff of Liberty Commons for their care during her stay.
