Beverly Edwards Mitchell

Beverly Edwards Mitchell, of Salisbury, NC passed away Sunday, May 31, 2026 at The Laurels of Salisbury. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Beverly was born August 8, 1937 in Wichita, Kansas to the late Mary Geraldine Elder and Ebie Merris Edwards. She was a graduate of North Miami High school where she was recipient of the Ellis Cline Award for most outstanding student in high school was also an honors student. She was a cheerleader in high school all four years and Captain her Senior year. She was President of Subdeb Club, a member of the Beta Club (Honors), Poinciana Princess Court, and voted “Most Likely to Succeed.” Beverly attended the University of Florida her freshman year and was a graduate of Atlantic Christian College (Bartin College) where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Education. She was a member of the Phi Sigma Tau Sorority and a Sigma Phi Epsilon Sweetheart. She was runner-up for Homecoming Queen and an honors student. Beverly was also a cheerleader in college and head cheerleader her Senior year. She was in the chapel choir and school chorus. Beverly was an elementary school teacher for 20 years in Camp Lejeune, NC, Subic Bay, Philippines, and Seal Beach, CA. In Chapel Hill, NC she was a demonstration teacher at the University of the NC Education Dept. She taught while Jim was in Dental School and was President of the Dental Dames. Beverly and family moved to Salisbury in 1972. Beverly was a member of First Presbyterian Church where she was a deacon and Sunday School teacher. In Salisbury she was an active volunteer in many non-profit groups. She was cofounder of Salisbury Families in Action Against Drugs. She was a proud member of the Peripatetic Book Club for more than forty years and a member of PEO International Society. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Dr. Jim Mitchell; daughters, Claire Mitchell Allen (Geoffrey) of Davidson, NC and Amy Mitchell Magid (David) of Tetonia, Idaho; grandsons whom she adored: Davis Clifton Allen and Grey Edwards Allen both of New York, NY; and cherished pet, Lulu. A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 AM Saturday, July 18 in First Presbyterian Church. The family will receive friends in Lewis Hall following the service for a luncheon.
