Ola Ross Rutlege

Ola Ross Rutledge, 95, of Salisbury, died March 16, 2022, at Trinity Oaks. Born August 17, 1926, Beaufort County, Mrs. Rutledge was the daughter of the late Clyde Vernon Ross and Lenore Hicks Ross. She attended Woman’s College of the University of North Carolina where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology. She married Joseph Graham Rutledge, III, on August 16, 1952. She is survived by daughters Catherine Rutledge Singer, Raleigh, Anne Rutledge O'Berry and Thomas Otis O'Berry, Winston-Salem, Elizabeth Rutledge Woodson and Paul Bernhardt Woodson, Jr., Salisbury, and Nancy Rutledge Sanders and Thomas Tharpe Sanders, Sr., Winder, GA, and six grandchildren, Catherine Singer Adcox, Greensboro, James Raymond Smith, III, Winston-Salem, Kristin Woodson Harvey, Beaufort, Sidney Sanders Patton, Athens, GA, Joseph Graham Rutledge Smith, Winston-Salem, and Thomas Tharpe Sanders, Jr., Athens, GA, and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years. Mrs. Rutledge was a long-time member of the First United Methodist Church of Salisbury, where she was a member of the altar guild and church circle. She also served on the Rowan Memorial Hospital Auxiliary Board, North Carolina Museum of History Associates Board, and the Board of Rowan Museum. She volunteered at Rowan Memorial Hospital, Girl Scouts of America, and the Rowan Salisbury School System among others. She was a member of the Le Jeudi and Tea and Topics Book Clubs and an avid bridge player. A private service will be held for the family.
