Mrs. LaVerne Cornelison Webb

Mrs. LaVerne Cornelison Webb, 86, of Salisbury, NC, died Sunday, February 21, 2010 at her home. Born November 12, 1923 in Salisbury, NC she was the daughter of the late Mary White Kluttz Cornelison and John Currie Cornelison. Mrs. Webb was a graduate of Spencer High School and Catawba College. She worked as a first grade teacher at Wiley Elementary School where she received the Excellence in Teaching Award. She was an active member of many organizations including: Epsilon Chapter of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society, NEA, NCEA, Milford Hills Lioness Club, Rose Society, Cub Scouts den mother, and was one of the original artists that started the Art Guild, which later became the Waterworks Gallery. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, member of the Daisy Hedrick Sunday School Class, the Methodist Connection, served on Meals on Wheels and taught Sunday school. Meemaw, as she was affectionately known, was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a talented artist, an avid reader and loved all children. Mrs. Webb is preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Mr. William W. Webb, Sr., July 27, 2008 and her parents. Survivors include two children, five grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren listed as follows: Son, Dr. William Whitaker Webb, Jr. and wife Gwen Grice Webb with their children and grandchildren: Dr. William W. Webb, III and wife Scotti Thomas Webb with children Mimi, Will, and Hank; daughter, Elizabeth Webb Snow and husband Eddy Lee Snow, Jr. with daughters Caroline and Caylee; son, Dr. John C. Webb and wife Jamie Hardison Webb with daughter Sutton and son, John Lucas Webb; and daughter Katie Webb Menees and husband Cory. Daughter, Gwen Webb Pendleton and husband Terry Steve Pendleton with son Jonathan Currie Pendleton and wife Traci Chapman Pendleton with children, Lyndsey, Billie, and twins Jon and Emmy. Mrs. Webb is survived by her sister Peg Whitley Cleaver and husband Bob, sister-in-law Doris Bernhardt Webb and numerous beloved nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held Tuesday, February 23, 2010 from 1:00-2:00 PM in the First United Methodist Fellowship Hall. Funeral service will follow at 2:00PM in the church sanctuary with Rev. Stephen D. Haines officiating. Burial will follow at Rowan Memorial Park. The family will be at the residence at all other times. The family would like to give special thanks to special friends, Tammie, Tonya, Ann, and Lisa; along with the staff of the Lutheran Home, Laurels Nursing Home, and Dr. Bill Thompson.
