Judge Larry Grant Ford

Judge Larry Grant Ford, 86 of Salisbury, passed away Saturday, June 19, 2021 at the Lutheran Home at Trinity Oaks. Born June 8, 1935 in Kannapolis, he was the son of the Neva Overcash Ford and Robert Clay Ford. Graduated from Landis High School, Class of 1953, the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill in 1957 and Wake Forest University School of Law, Class of 1965 where he was President of the Phi Delta Phi Fraternity. Attorney Chips Franchise; Assistant US Attorney Eastern District; Associate Counsel NC Utilities Commission; General Counsel NC League of Municipalities; President NC Association of Municipal Attorneys. Partner Davis & Ford, Ford & Weinhold, Ford Parrott & Hudson, Woodson Ford Sayers Lawther Short Parrot & Hudson Attorneys all in Salisbury. In 1998 he was elected Senior Resident Superior Court Judge for District 19-C and retired in December 2006. He was a Certified Superior Court Mediator. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Salisbury where he served as an Elder for sixteen years, four of which he was Clerk of Session. He also served as Chairman of the Executive, Worship, Education and Personnel Committees. Judge Ford was a member of the Maxwell Chambers Trust and taught junior high Sunday school. Member and Past President of the Salisbury Kiwanis Club. Trustee 8 years at Rowan Cabarrus Community College, and member of the Rowan ABC Board for 4 years. Chairman of the Rowan County Democratic Party. He was a 32nd degree Mason and member of the Andrew Jackson Masonic Lodge #576, A.F. & A.M., Scottish Rites and an Oasis Shriner. He was a member of Salisbury Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors. In 1982 he was honored with the Long Leaf Pine Award by then Governor James Hunt. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 56 years, Lawana Hunter Ford, his children, Kimberly Ford Haldopoulos and husband Brig. Gen. Emmanuel Ike Haldopoulos of Peachtree City, GA, Grant Hunter Ford and wife Ella Myers Ford of Marietta, GA; grandchildren, Marina Evelyn Haldopoulos, Emmanuel Jacob Haldopoulos, Hunter Myers Ford and Sloane Elizabeth Ford. A Memorial Service will be held 1:00 PM Friday (June 25) at the First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Josh Musser-Gritter, officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church Building Fund, 308 W. Fisher Street, Salisbury, NC 28144 or Rowan Helping Ministries, 226 N. Long Street, Salisbury, NC 28144.
