June 10, 1927 - December 16, 2021
Mr. JVan Hayworth, age 94, passed away unexpectedly at his Salisbury home on Thursday, December 16, 2021. He was born on June 10, 1927, to the late Frank Dewitt Hayworth and Ethel Chaney Hayworth. After graduating from Boyden High School, Van entered the military where he served in the US Marine Corps and in the Army. After discharge from the military, he worked as a granite polisher at Harris Granite Company and continued his education, graduating from Kings Business College. He retired after a long career as a mail carrier from the US Postal Service. Van enjoyed being active, jogging and cycling while he was able to, and had a lifetime love of aviation, always desiring to obtain a pilot license. He was a kind, generous man and will be fondly remembered and dearly missed. In addition to his parents, Van was preceded in death by his beloved wife Angelene Martin, whom he married in 1961, brother Walter Chaney, and sisters Juanita Sasser and Flora Miller. Those left to cherish his memories are his daughter Sylvia Swisher (Kevin), brothers Frank Hayworth (Norma), Wayne Hayworth (Loretta), sister Debbie Sutton, and numerous nieces/nephews and grandnieces/nephews. Per Van’s request there will be no visitation or services. At a later date, his ashes will be interred along with his wife’s at the Salisbury National Cemetery where the family will hold a private remembrance and celebration of life.
