November 2, 1936 - January 19, 2021
June Evelyn Powlas Powell, 84, passed away on Tuesday, January 19, 2021 at Piedmont Crossing in Thomasville. She was born November 2, 1936 in Forsyth County to the late Everett Leroy Powlas and Vada Moore Powlas. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Susan Powell Little; brother, Barry Powlas and sister, Ann Powlas White. Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter Lisa Carley (Tim) of Apex; sons, Harrell “David” Powell (Kim) of Charlotte and Mark Powell (Cathy) of Lewisville; son-in-law, Don Little; grandchildren, Hunter Powell, Lindsey Powell, Katie Powell, Connor Powell, Liam Carley, Aidan Carley and Emily Little; nieces, Dana Burgess, Mexi White; and nephew, Barrett Powlas. June grew up in Rowan County and graduated from Cleveland High School. She later attended Catawba College. After her marriage to Harrell Powell Jr., she moved to Winston-Salem, and later to Clemmons, where she raised her four children and spent most of her life. She was a wonderful, loving mother, and her children were her life. She spent many years on the sidelines watching and cheering all four of her children at their many sporting events and activities. She was a Scout Den Mother, school room mother, field trip chaperone, sports booster, etc. Always there to lend a helping hand. When her children were young, June worked as a Teacher’s Aide for the WSFCSS so she could enjoy the summers off with her children. Many of those summers were spent traveling in the old wood-paneled station wagon with camping trips to the mountains and the beach. Later, June received her CNA certificate and worked in home health, providing lots of love and care to elderly patients in their home. She was a previous member of Clemmons Moravian Church and enjoyed many outings with the Young at Heart fellowship group. June loved to sing and enjoyed watching old movies. She also had a great love of animals and took in many rescues over the years. June will be dearly missed by her family and all who knew her. A Graveside Service will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 23, 2021 at Cleveland United Methodist Cemetery with Rev. John Rights officiating.
