August 19, 1925 - October 16, 2021
Jean Thomason Foster, 96, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Oct. 16, 2021, at Autumn Care of Salisbury. Her sweet countenance made her beloved by staff and residents. Mrs. Foster was born in Rowan County on Aug. 19, 1925, to the late Charlie Gilbert Thomason and Mattie Bernhardt Thomason. She graduated from Granite Quarry High School in 1942 and from Salisbury Beauty College in 1944. She was a beauty operator for 69 years. In 1949, she married Samuel Vernon Foster, and they made their home in Granite Quarry. Mr. Foster passed away in 2001. She was a charter member of Maranatha Bible Church and attended every service as long as her health allowed. She was active in all areas of the church, teaching Sunday School, singing in the choir, playing the piano at Franklin Presbyterian Church, and supporting many missionaries. She read through the Bible 15 times, having carefully kept a record inside her Bible. She enjoyed working in her garden, reading, visiting in person or by phone, and helping others every chance she got. She loved her neighbors in Granite Quarry and said it was “the best neighborhood anyone could ever live in.” Mrs. Foster was the last of eight children to pass away. She was preceded in death by brother, Spencer Thomason; sisters, Estelle Ward, Sarah Goodman, Rebecca Gobble, Eva Beatrice Merrell, Colleene Baxley, and Annie Shuping. She was affectionately called “Aunt Jean” by 29 nieces and nephews and scores of later generations in the families. Visitation will be at Summersett Funeral Home on Friday, Oct. 22, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. The funeral service will be conducted by Pastor Lincoln Roth at Maranatha Bible Church, 2320 Statesville Blvd., Salisbury, on Saturday, Oct. 23, at 11:00 a.m. Mrs. Foster will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service. Graveside rites will follow immediately at Rowan Memorial Park. Memorials can be made to Maranatha Bible Church, 2320 Statesville Blvd, Salisbury, NC, 28147, or the charity of your choice.
