Mr. Charles Alfred “Al” Hoffman, Sr., 91, passed away Sunday, August 22, 2021 at Novant Health Rowan Medical Center. Born November 6, 1929 in Salisbury, Al was the son of the late Henry Arthur Hoffman and Ruth Cornelison Hoffman. He was educated at Boyden High School and graduated from Salisbury Business College. He served in the U.S. Army. He owned and operated Hardiman’s Furniture prior to his retirement. He loved his family, sports, and his yard. He was a father, friend and mentor to many. He was known affectionately by many as Pop. Al was witty, kind, caring, generous, loving, sharp and always current on events. Al was a member of the First Presbyterian Church where he was a member of the Every Man’s Bible Class and the Choir. He was a dedicated Sunday School teacher and served as an Elder and Deacon. He was a member of the Jaycees, Elks Club, Salisbury Rowan Merchant’s Association and the Rowan Furniture Dealers Association. In addition to his parents, Al was preceded in death by his beloved first wife Lillie Mae Hardiman Hoffman on November 5, 2006 and siblings, David Hoffman, Martha Kennerly, Joyce Moorefield, Henry Hoffman, Eleanor Balestrino, Elizabeth Williams, Pete Hoffman, Ann Hargis, and Patricia Harris. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Mary Anne Davis Hoffman; children, Sharon Elizabeth Hoffman of Salisbury, Charles Alfred Hoffman, Jr. and wife Kim of Wilson and Richard Scott Hoffman of Studio City, California; brother, Sam Hoffman and wife Barbara of Salisbury; grandchildren, Amy Query and husband Justin, Hunter Hoffman and wife Jennifer, Talbot Hoffman, Heather Hoffman, Haleigh Hoffman; great-grandchildren Hampton Query, Campbell Query; step-children, Robert Davis, Jr., James A. Davis, Janet Davis Jeter, Rev. Jonathan D. Davis and wife Lynette, , Jennifer Davis Hammonds and husband Eric and Chris and Jackie Crane; 17 step-grandchildren, 9 step-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 PM Wednesday (Aug. 25) at the First Presbyterian Church of Salisbury with Rev. Lara Musser Gritter, Rev. Josh Musser Gritter and Rev. Jonathan Davis officiating. Interment will follow at City Memorial Park. Military Graveside Rites will be conducted by the US Army and Rowan County Veterans Honor Guard.
