Mrs. Bonnie Loper Mowery

Bonnie Loper Mowery passed away peacefully at her home at 1:55 P.M. on Monday, September 12, 2016. Bonnie was the devoted wife of Hartman Baxter Mowery of Salisbury. The couple has lived in Salisbury for the last 5 years at the Gables at Kepley Farm housing area just off of Faith Rd. Bonnie has lived a beautiful life of love of family and concern for others who are less fortunate. She was born Bonnie Carolyn Loper on August 13, 1941 in Jackson, Mississippi. Her early education took place in the parochial school system of Saint Peters Co-Cathedral in Jackson where she excelled in academics and earned a scholarship to Sienna College in Memphis. After schooling, Bonnie began her professional career as a staff associate for the JC Penney Company in Jackson. On September 2, 1962, she married the love of her life Baxter who was 2 years into a 20-year career in military service. Regardless, Bonnie began her next major contribution to life by becoming one of the world’s greatest mothers. In Berlin, Germany in 1963 and 1964, she gave birth to her first two children, Scott and Cynthia, in the shadow of the Berlin Wall. Her third child, Edward, was born in 1970 near Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana. When the children were old enough, Bonnie continued her professional career, this time as a Real Estate Professional. After a year learning the trade, she became a Real Estate Broker and co-founded her own company, Aspen Realty of Los Alamos, in Los Alamos New Mexico. In Salisbury for retirement, she has continued to contribute as a volunteer for Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Lumen Christi Lane. Bonnie is survived by her husband Baxter; her children and their spouses Scott A. Mowery and Danette C. Mowery of Asheville, Cynthia M. Begley and Michael E. Begley of Denver, and Edward F. Mowery and Stephanie J. Mowery of Albuquerque; her twelve grandchildren Austin, Daniel, Ruth, Samuel, and Joshua Mowery; Zachary, Lucas, Jason, and Kathryn Begley; and Kevin, Ryan, and Branden McCurley; and finally her brothers Frank Loper of Houston and Edward Loper of Cordova Tennessee; and her sister Linda Jones of Vicksburg Mississippi. She was predeceased by a younger brother Leonard Loper of Madison, Alabama and by her parents Frank Herbert Loper and Carolyn Wadsworth Loper, formerly of Jackson Mississippi. The family will receive friends from 6-7:30 PM Thursday (Sept. 15) at Summersett Funeral Home. The funeral is at 11:00 am, Friday, September 16, 2016 at Sacred Hearts Catholic Church, 375 Lumen Christi Lane, Salisbury, NC 28147 with Rev. John Eckert officiating.
