Betty Margaret Ray Rhodes, of Jacksonville, FL passed away Sunday, October 17, 2021 at her daughter’s home in Boydton, Virginia. Born October 20, 1932, in Winston-Salem, NC she was the daughter of the late Noah Ray and Bertha Gentry Ray. Mrs. Rhodes was a graduate of Boyden High School and attended Cosmetology school from which she had many fulfilling opportunities to include florist and hair stylist. She enjoyed crafting and crocheting as hobbies and learned to fly at age 70, earning her private pilot’s license. She was a member of Long Branch Baptist Church in Florida. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, C.A. “Dusty” Rhodes. Those left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Veda Dry, Sabra Gear, and Tricia Hailey (Alvin James); son, Robert Bostian Jr. (Debbie); stepdaughter, Linda Zaiko (Tom); grandchildren, Marie Shehan (Jason), Lynne Smith (Josh), Sonny Gear (Rebecca), Kasey Gaulden (David), Tara Johnson (Casey), Scarlett Hailey, Samantha Hailey, Sophie Hailey, and Jay Perry, III; great-grandchildren, Gavin, Holden, Addison, Samuel, Elijah, Jonah, Jackson, Lynlee, Jacob, Ryen and Violet. The family will see friends at West Lawn Memorial Gardens 30 minutes before the graveside service which begins at 11 AM on Saturday (Oct 23). Following the service , she will be entombed in West Lawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Alzheimer’s Association, Western Carolina Chapter, 4600 Park Rd.
