Mrs Xzantippa H. Miller

Xzantippa H. (Tippie) Miller of Salisbury, passed away on Saturday, February 25, 2017, at Novant Health Rowan Medical Center. She was the wife of the late Robert B. (Bob) Miller III, who preceded her in death in 2001. Tippie was born in Old Fort, North Carolina, on July 3, 1940. She was the daughter of the late Jefferson Clay Hensley and Margaret Suttles Hensley. Tippie graduated from Boyden High School in 1958. In 1960 she married Bob, “the love of her life.” After raising her two children, Bobby and Sharon, Tippie began years of service to her community. In 1976, she was named “Woman of the Year” by the Salisbury Jr. Women’s Club. She served on the North Carolina board of the American Cancer Society for fifteen years and played a large role in the development of what is now known as Rowan Vocational Opportunies. Tippie served for six years on the board of Rowan Helping Ministries and was instrumental in the construction of the new Ralph Ketner Center. She helped to organize the first Hospice of Rowan County, and after thirty years of effort, became the driving force behind the construction of The Kiser Hospice House. She served on the Novant Health Rowan Medical Center Foundation board for six years, where she acted as head of the development committee. Tippie was an avid supporter of Catawba College, where she served on the Board of Visitors and the Steering Committee for future development, as well as serving as president of the Chiefs Club. Through the years, Tippie received numerous service awards. She was recognized by two seated governors for her volunteer services. In 2014 she was named Volunteer of the Year for Excellence in Health Care by the Charlotte Business Journal. In 2016 Tippie was the recipient of the Wilson L. Smith Philanthropic Award presented by the Novant Health Rowan Medical Center Foundation. Tippie enjoyed spending time with her family and close friends. She enjoyed traveling, she loved to cook, and she took great joy in seeing as many of her grandson’s baseball games as she possibly could. When not on the go, her favorite pastime was spending time with her beloved cat Smudge. Tippie is survived by her son Robert Jefferson (Bobby) Miller of Salisbury, daughter Sharon Miller Earnhardt and grandson Robert Chase Earnhardt of Faith, special aunt Betty Suttles of Marion, sisters-in-law Mary Catherine Miller Taylor (Clyde) of Hickory and Linda Miller Price (Larry) of Hillsboro, as well as numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and special friends. A visitation will be held on Friday, March 3, 2017 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at The Faith Center at St. John’s Lutheran Church. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 4, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Novant Health Rowan Medical Center Foundation , 130 Mocksville Ave, Salisbury, NC 28144 to be used for the Kiser Hospice House, or to Novant Health Rowan Medical Center Foundation to be used for Cancer Services.
