Mr William Kyle Rickard

William Kyle Rickard died at the age of 93 at the Good Samaritan Hospic Center in Beaver,PA. He had been residing with his daughter in Darlington,PA for the past 3 months. Born August 14,1921 in Kannapolis,NC, Rowan County. He was preceded in death by his parents Frank & Mabel Rickard, his wife of 53 years.Mabel Widener Rickard, brother Hearne Rickard, sister Bonnie Yandell, and nephew Arnold Rickard. Bill (know as Kyle to family) was a deputy for the Sheriff of Rowan County before joining the Salisbury Police Dept. He retired after 38 years as a lieutenant in the Detective Division. In 1973 he was awarded the Veteran of the Year for outstanding service in his department and community. He was president of the North/South Carolina Peace Officers Association from 1974-1975. He earned the highest possible certificate in the State of North Carolina, the General Advanced Law Enforcement Certificate. He was a member of the Andrew Jackson Masonic Lodge 576 A.F. & A.M.. Bill was a member of the First United Church of Christ. He attended the Trinity Wesleyan Church.. Bill loved the travel. Every fall he would go to Myrtle Beach with his family. His favorite place was in the mountains where he had a place on the Blue Ridge Parkway, Galax, VA He is greatly missed by his 10yr old dog & companion, Mr. Higgins. He is survived by his daughter Donna Rickard Creighton, Darlington,Pa; granddaughters Kim(Brian)Douglass,Darlington Pa.and Debbie Keim,Elmore City,OK. Bill had 5 great grandchildren, Nicole,Joshua, Justin, Ashley, and Robbie; 2 great great grandchildren Alexa & Landyn. Also he is survived by sister in law Ava Rickard, Kannapolis, NC; nephew Rick(Danita)Rickard,Kannapolis,NC;nephew Tony(Toni)Widener,Gastonia,NC; niece Annette(Bill)Halberstadt, Newark, DE and nephew Bill(Julia) Yandell, Leesburg,Fl. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Thursday (Feb. 5) at Summersett Funeral Home. Funeral service will be conducted 11 AM – Friday (Feb. 6) at the Summersett Memorial Chapel with Pastor Martha Richardson, officiating.
