Thomas Lee "Bud" Sprinkle

Thomas Lee “Bud” Sprinkle, 92, passed away at Autumn Care of Salisbury, January 5, 2012. Born Jan 14, 1919 in Salisbury, he was the son of the late John Thomas and Berta Taylor Sprinkle. He attended Salisbury City Schools and graduated from Boyden High School, Class of 1936. Mr. Sprinkle was a veteran of the US Navy during World War II and served on the USS Delta. He worked for Southern Railway for 33 years as a boilermaker before retiring on January 2, 1979. Bud was a member of the First Baptist Church of Salisbury, was a Charter Member of the TarHeel Racing Pigeon Club formed in April 1959 and he flew representing the C&S Loft, the Harold B. Jarrett American Legion Post #342 for 64 years, Fulton Masonic Lodge #99 A.F. & A.M. Preceding him in death in addition to his parents were his sisters and brother-in-laws, Sue S. and Clarence Eaton, Lib and Ken Clarke, brother, Gilbert Taylor Sprinkle and brother-in-law, Joe Terrell and nephews, Ed Clarke and Bill Eaton. Those left to cherish his memory are his sister, Francis S. Terrell of Winston-Salem; sister-in-law, Sara B. Sprinkle of Salisbury, nieces and caregivers, Nancy and Martha Clarke of Salisbury; nieces Peggy S. Summerlin of Lexington, Brenda S.Bernhardt of Granite Quarry; nephews, Tommy Eaton of Salisbury, Gilbert Sprinkle, Jr. (Joyce) of Rockwell, Keith Sprinkle (Lisa) of Salisbury; great nieces, Gina C. Phifer (Pat) of Cleveland; great nephews, Jeff N. Clarke and Ken E. Clarke (Elizabeth) of Cleveland; great great-nieces, Clarke E. Phifer, Corbin A. Phifer and Emma E. Clarke of Cleveland; great great-nephews, Coleman T. Phifer and Mason E. Clarke of Cleveland and numerous other great and great great-nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted 3:30 PM – Sunday (Jan. 8) at Summersett Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Kenneth Lance, minister of the First Baptist Church of Salisbury officiating. Interment will follow at Chestnut Hill Cemetery with Military Graveside Rites conducted by the Rowan County Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 2:30-3:30 PM Sunday at the Summersett Funeral Home. Special thanks to the staff of Hall 600 and the Rehab Unit at Autumn Care for the excellent care over the past 2 ½ months. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Salisbury, 223 N.
