Summey Irene Loflin Watson

Summey Irene Loflin Watson, 93, of Spencer passed away Wednesday, June 30, 2021 at the Lutheran Home at Trinity Oaks. Born December 4, 1927 in Rowan County, she was the daughter of the late Valle Maude Rebecca Summey Loflin and John McKenzie Loflin. She was educated in the Spencer schools and graduated from Spencer High School. Mrs. Watson was employed for Lomax Appliance, was a teacher’s assistant in Spencer schools, was an assistant with the Head Start Program and was a homemaker. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church where she served as a gift bearer and volunteered with Meals on Wheels. She loved playing cards, fishing, planning and providing spectacular meals for her family. She cherished her family and gathering them all together. Loved to figure numbers, doing her checkbook and finances. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Joseph Bernard Watson; daughter, Regina Watson Hales; brothers, Lacey Loflin, Ray Loflin and Bennie Loflin; sisters, Annie Whitman, Dot Leonard and Ruth Dukelow. Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Rita Watson Savage (Lad) of Augusta, GA, Barry Bernard Watson (Penny) of Kingsport, TN, Tammy Watson Pritchard (Bryan) of Salisbury, Phillip Joseph Watson (Jacqui) of Salisbury, and Jatana Watson King (Mitch) of Elon; son-in-law, Pete Hales of Hendersonville, TN; grandchildren, Summey Poag (Scott), Crosby Savage, III (Katie), Ryan Hales (Wendi), Brad Hales (Andrea), Justin Hales, Derek Hales (Rebecca), Laura Watson, Adam Pritchard (Kateryn), Brandi Overby (Daniel), Whitney Wyrick (Jason), Cameron Watson, Raleigh Watson (Jena), Tyler King, Evan King, and Haley King; great-grandchildren, Audrey Poag, Deacon Poag, Mia Hales, Sawyer Hales, Alexis Hales, Addison Hales, Mason Hales, Silas Hales, Lucy Hales, Ethan Overby, Coen Overby, Ava Pritchard, Austin Pritchard, Asher Pritchard, Ryker Wyrick, Daxton Wyrick, Kayleigh Savage, and Crosby Savage IV. A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted 11:00 AM Monday (July 5) at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Rev. John Eckert, officiating. Interment will follow at Rowan Memorial Park.
