Sue Palmer Fisher

Sue Palmer Fisher, 84, peacefully exchanged her earthly time for eternity with our Lord on Wednesday, March 4 at the Glenn A. Kiser Hospice House. She was greeted in Heaven by our Lord and her husband, Paul E. Fisher, who passed before her on October 30, 2020. Sue was born to the late Charles Steven and Hazel Holder Palmer of Rowan County on November 30, 1941. She was educated at North Rowan High School proudly representing her school as the NRHS Homecoming Queen in 1959. She graduated from Salisbury Business College and began her career at F&M Bank until she started her family. Sue was involved in many community organizations through the years. She loved the PTA and became the chair of her children’s Granite Quarry Elementary, Erwin Middle School, and East Rowan High School PTAs. She loved serving as the Chair of the Salisbury YMCA and YMCA County Board. She held leadership roles at Rowan Helping Ministries, Salisbury Community Care Clinic, Rowan Museum, Historic Salisbury Foundation, RSS Communities in Schools, and Nazareth’s Children’s Home. Despite her numerous achievements, Sue considered her greatest accomplishment to be her two children, ten grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren. She placed high importance on family and particularly enjoyed fun adventures with them. Her goals for her children and grandchildren were to always to serve Christ, to receive a strong educational background, and to pursue a profession that would be fulfilling. Most recently, she fought her illness with grace and humility, clinging to the scriptures from Romans 5:3-5. She cherished her family and friends dearly. Proceeding her in death, were her parents, her husband, the late Paul E. Fisher of Salisbury, her sister Mackie Ann, and her husband Charles Honeycutt of Salisbury. She is survived by her two children, Paula Fisher Philpot (Irv) of Greenville, SC, and Jacob Steven Fisher (Robin) of Salisbury, NC, and ten grandchildren: including Bo Philpot (Rachel), Kirby-Annah Philpot, HopeEllen Philpot Turner (Alan), PollyRose Philpot O’Neill (Lee), SamcieJoe Philpot Barrett (Carson), Bubba Philpot (Erin), ElizaPearl Philpot, Banks Fisher (Lauren), Maxwell Fisher, and Jackson Fisher. She is also cherished by her seven great grandchildren – Hank, Tripp, Daisy, ScottieJoe, Teddy, AnnePalmer, and EllieJames. Although she lived a very public life in Salisbury, it was her desire that her final journey be an intimate celebration with her immediate family. Accordingly, a small private funeral worship service will be held at First Presbyterian Church of Salisbury, followed by a graveside service at Chestnut Hill Cemetery of Salisbury.
