Stephen "Steve" Francis Pring

Stephen “Steve” Francis Pring, 70, of Salisbury, NC passed away Tuesday, July 17, 2018 at the Liberty Lane Hospice House after a brief illness. Military rites and burial will be held on Tuesday, December 4th at 2:00 p.m. at Rowan Memorial Park with Father David McCanless officiating. Steve was born in Salisbury, NC on March 23, 1948 to the late Anthony and Lena Pring. He was a 1966 graduate of Boyden High School. After graduation, he briefly attended Catawba College before serving his country during Vietnam as a crew chief in the Army. He worked for the Xerox Corporation for thirty-five years. During his career at Xerox, he returned to Catawba College and graduated Summa Cum Laude in May of 1992. He was also a member of the Alpha Chi National Honor Society. After retiring from Xerox, he taught middle school for seven years at Sacred Heart Catholic School where he shared his love of social studies and science. Steve was an avid golfer since the age of ten. He also enjoyed meteorology and astronomy. He maintained weather records for the Rowan-Salisbury area for over forty years. Steve was always an advocate for education and appreciated the value of knowledge. He is survived by his wife, Louise Weiford Pring, whom he married July 19, 1975. He is also survived by his daughter Katherine “Katie” Gunning and her husband Brandon of Landis and his granddaughters, the joy of his life, Claire and Charlotte Gunning. Surviving siblings are Larry Pring of Hawaii, Ed Pring and wife Kay of Greensboro, Gail and husband Myles Mintz of Salisbury, Marianne Pring of Salisbury, James Pring of Georgia and John Pring of Salisbury. Memorials: in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Liberty Lane Hospice House, 1601 Brenner Ave., Salisbury, NC 28144 or Wake Forest School of Medicine, Bowman Gray, PO Box 571021, Winston-Salem, NC 27157-1021. Steve had his body donated to research at Bowman Gray for the study of glioblastomas. Summersett Funeral Home is honored to serving the Pring family.
