Ruby Beaver Smith

Ruby Beaver Smith of Salisbury passed away peacefully at the Levine Dickson Hospice House in Charlotte on March 22, 2017. Born May 25, 1927 in Rockwell N.C., Mrs. Smith was the daughter of Carrie Susan and Clifford Tell Beaver. She graduated from Rockwell High School and attended Appalachian University. She spent two years in Washington D.C. working for the State Department. After returning to N. C., she worked for Sherrill and Smith CPA firm for 24 years, retiring in 1970. Ruby was predeceased by her parents, brother, Glenn Beaver of Hurst, Texas and sister, Lois Brown of Kannapolis, N. C. and step-daughter, Eve Appleby. She was married to the late George C. Smith. Survivors include daughter Sandy Hamilton (Claude) with first husband, Fred Nash; granddaughter, Ashley Teel and great grandson, Justin Speizman; stepson, Peter Appleby, granddaughter, Kim Appleby, grandson, Michael Appleby, and great grandchildren, Pepper, Isabella, Olivia, Madeleine, Chandler and Catherine Appleby of Augusta, Ga. Ruby and Smitty had a wonderful 37 years of marriage enjoying hunting, fishing, golf, dancing, traveling and going to the horse races with friends. She loved the beach trips with the family and especially the “girl trips” with Sandy and Ashley. She was a member of First Methodist Church of Salisbury, a member of The Credit Women International, holding both local and state offices, Intercivic Council, Rockwell Woman’s Club and East Rowan High School PTA and The Salisbury Country Club. The family will receive friends from 10:00-11 am at Summersett Funeral Home, 1315 W. Innes St., Salisbury, N. C. on Monday, March 27, 2017 A funeral Service will follow at 11:00 am in Summersett Memorial Chapel; conducted by Rev. Dr. Mark Conforti, of First Methodist Church.Burial will follow in Rowan Memorial Park. Donations may be made to: Hemophelia of N.
