Ruby Lee Kluttz Goodman

Ruby passed from this life to her heavenly home December 23, 2016. She passed peacefully at her home with her daughter and granddaughter by her side. Ruby was born on February 1, 1932 to George and Ethel Boyd Kluttz. Ruby married her high school sweetheart, Jim Goodman, on October 15, 1950. They shared a love for playing basketball for the high school teams and both were excellent team players. Ruby was educated in the Rowan County Schools. She graduated from East Spencer High School, Catawba College and received her Master’s Degree from UNC-C. She taught fourth grade at North Rowan Elementary for many years before devoting all her creative efforts in her many retail businesses. Ruby was the owner of Ruby’s of Salisbury where she designed and produced thousands of original prom, pageant, and bridal gowns. Ruby also provided a full service bridal package of photography, flowers and catering over the years. Her recipe for the wedding cakes was a trade secret that only she knew. She also enjoyed her many flowers that she grew all over her yard and was well known for the flower cross that blooms on the hill every Easter. Ruby was an avid traveler and thought nothing of driving across the country to attend a quilt or gift market. She always had one project or another going, from the church Christmas Pageants, high school reunions, or the dozens of quilts in various stages of being created. Ruby was a life-long member of Union Lutheran Church on Bringle Ferry Road. She taught several adult Sunday school classes over the years and provided the church with flowers for many occasions. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Ray Goodman and infant child, James Andrew, sisters Julia Leonard and Pearl Wilson and brother George Henry Kluttz. Those left to cherish her memory are daughter, Ouida Raye Goodman Davis and son-in-law Randy Davis; grand-children James Davis (Autumn) and Aimee Davis Durham (David); great-grandchildren Emily Davis, Jackson Davis, Hailie Durham and Kylie Durham all of Salisbury, NC. Sisters: Ruth Monroe, Daisy Martin (Howard) of Salisbury, NC, Patricia Peeler of Centreville, VA, Margaret Kluttz (Glenn) of Prosperity, SC, Brothers: Arthur Kluttz (Shirley) and Elbert Kluttz (Cheryl), of Salisbury, NC and Edna England of Raleigh. Brothers-in-law Claude Goodman (Mary), William Goodman (Peggy) of Easley, SC, Donald Goodman (Gwen) of San Diego, CA and Sister-in-Law Mary Haverland (Joe) of Easley, SC. There are many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews and lifelong friends. Memorial Services will be held at Union Lutheran Church on Saturday January 28, 2017 at 1:00pm. A time of fellowship will be held immediately after the services in the church fellowship hall. A special thank you for Community Care Hospice for the wonderful nurses, social workers and chaplain who made it possible for us to allow mom her wish, of to remain at home until her last breath. Also, special thanks for the past two years to the many caregivers that helped with mom, especially Melissa Morgan and Vickie Adams. Their love and encouragement has been wonderful.
