Roy Odell Bogle

Mr. Roy Odell Bogle, 94, of Salisbury, passed away Tuesday, June 23, 2009 at Rowan Regional Medical Center. Born in Rowan County on October 2, 1914, he was the son of the late Harvey Wakefield Bogle, and Harriett Elizabeth (Betty) Albright. Mr. Bogle worked in Saw Mill work, at Cannon Mills and retired from Southern Railroad as Carman after 31 years of service. He did a lot of farm work for himself and others. He was a lifetime member of Salem Lutheran Church and served on the Church Council, and was a member of the Doyte Watson Sunday School Class. Roy loved his family and friends; He loved to fish at the beach and work in his garden. He enjoyed baseball (The Atlanta Braves), and he coached a Pony League Team for Salem Lutheran Church in his earlier years. Mr. Bogle was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Gladys Faye Bogle, one brother, Carl M. Bogle; four sisters, Margaret Furr, Daisy Bogle, Louise Schenk, and Hallie Dobbin, and two-great-grandchildren, Brittany Bogle, and Haleigh Beaver. Those left to cherish his memory is his wife of 69 years, Mary Azile Graham Bogle. They were married on September 30, 1939; sons, Clyde R. Bogle (Rena) of Rocky Mount, NC, James P. Bogle (Joyce) of Salisbury, Larry E. Bogle (Maggie) of Concord, Donald R. Bogle (Wanda) of Salisbury; daughters, Carolyn Wagner (Gary) of Mt. Ulla, Betty Lippard (Bob) of Salisbury, and Brenda Koontz (Richard) of Simpsonville, SC; seventeen grandchildren, Wendy Casper (Kenneth),of Gold Hill, Ray Bogle (Han),of Dallas, Texas, Chris Bogle (Patty),of Salisbury, Ron Bogle (Amy),of Cleveland, Angie Clark (Bryant),of Mooresville, Sam Bogle (Cindy), of Austin, Texas, Kristi Brown (Scott), of Statesville, Pete Bogle (Katie), of Salisbury, Bryan Wagner (Cristy), of Huntersville, Erica L. Darnell, of Salisbury, Jennifer Hunt (Hank), of Morganton, Holli Peeler (Scott), of Woodleaf, Carla Finney (Joe), of Granite Quarry, Michael Koontz, of Simpsonville, SC, Stephanie Bogle, Champaign, Ill. Julie Bollinger (Tim), of Garner, and Jeffrey Koontz of Rock Hill, SC; and twenty-four great-grandchildren, Josh, Logan, Bryson, Courtney, Christine, Michelle, Justin, Jacob, Danielle, Samantha, Gus, Ethan, Sage, Mia, Mahayla, Abbie, Hannah, Aiden, Cora, Nathan, Cameron, Kathryne, Bradley, and Kelsey. Mr. Bogle is also survived by two brothers, Harvey Edward Bogle (Margie), and Homer R. Bogle (Martha), all of Salisbury. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening (June 24) from 6:30-8:30 PM in the Parlor at Salem Lutheran Church. Services honoring Mr. Bogle’s life will be held at 3:00 PM Thursday (June 25) in the sanctuary of Salem Lutheran Church with the Rev. Don. Phillips and Rev. Doug Hefner officiating.
