Robert "Bob" Taylor Shinn Sr.

Mr. Robert “Bob” Taylor Shinn, Sr., 72, of Mount Ulla, NC passed away Monday, January 28, 2019 at Glenn A Kiser Hospice House. He passed away 1 month after being diagnosed with brain cancer. Born May 27th, 1946 in Salisbury, NC he was the son of the late Ruby Miller Shinn and Horace Taylor Shinn. He was a 1964 graduate of West Rowan High School, a graduate of Mitchell Community College and Appalachian State University with a bachelor degree in History. Mr. Shinn was a beloved father, husband and friend and founder of the family business, The Feed Bucket in Mooresville NC, approximately 30 years ago. He grew up farming the family farm in Mount Ulla with his late father Horace Shinn. After graduating from Appalachian, he taught at West Rowan Junior High School. He also worked at Belk for many years and owned several other businesses such as convenience stores throughout his life. He was a classic car and truck lover with his favorite being his Dodge Little Red Express. He enjoyed fishing, drinking coffee, and was a member of Calvary Baptist Tabernacle. He was an avid Duke Basketball and Dallas Cowboy fan. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and traveling with them. He especially enjoyed staying at the “mountain house” in North Wilkesboro. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his late wife of 36 years, Patty Sikes Shinn, in 2016 and his younger brother, Steve Shinn. Surviving is his wife Rita Taylor Shinn; daughter Amanda Shinn Patterson and husband Jeremy of Troutman, NC; son, son Robert T. Shinn, Jr of Mooresville, NC; grandchildren, Hunter, Patrick, Alaina, Jacob. The family will receive friends from 5pm-8pm Wednesday (January 30th) at Summersett Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 2:30 PM on Thursday (January 31st) at Summersett Memorial Chapel conducted by Rev. Steve Holshouser, minister of Calvary Baptist Tabernacle. Entombment to immediately follow at Rowan Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family would like to say a special thank you to the Glenn A Kiser Hospice House, Dr. Goodman and Forsyth Medical Center for taking care of him for the final weeks and days of his life.
