Mr Norman Monroe Jordan

Mr. Norman Monroe Jordan,85,of Salisbury, passed away Monday, September 8, 2014 at his residence. Mr. Jordan was born on May 5,1929 in Forsyth County, NC to the late Robert Clarence Jordan and Emma Lee Brock Jordan. He was a graduate of Salisbury City Schools. He retired after 35 years as a supervisor from Southern Bell Telephone Company. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and formerly served on the Board of Deacons. He has made many friends over the past years through CB radios. As a young man he loved to play baseball and later umpired little league baseball. He was a loving father of two girls, three grandsons and eight great grandchildren. Mr. Jordan was married to Mildred “Mickie” Collins Jordan for 58 years prior to her death in 2006. He had one sister Melva Jordan Harrigan whom also preceded him in death. He is survived by two daughters: Gaye Jordan Orrell (Jerry) of Churchland, NC and Norma Jordan Foster of the home; Three grandsons: Ian Foster (Eva) of Camden, NC, Todd Orrell (fiancée Nikkie Shell) of Lexington, NC and Brian Orrell (Wendy) of Lexington, NC. He was Grandpa to many including Leslie Grubbs Pearman of Clyde, NC. Great grandchildren, Sarah and Alex Foster, Justin, Chad, Caleb, Jacob, Jerod and Caydence-Raine Orrell Children of Nikkie Shell; Seth and Haley Shell, Kimberly Ryan Joshua and Caleb Pearman. Brother: David B. Jordan of Salisbury; brother-in-law: Jack Collins (Louise) of Faith, NC; sister-in-law Peggy Collins of Salisbury; Numerous nieces and nephews. A special thanks to nephew Mike Harrigan for his continued dedication and service. A funeral service will be held on 11 AM Friday (Sept 12) at Calvary Baptist Church. The casket will lie in state at the church 30 minutes prior to the service. The service will be conducted by Dr. Rick Cockerham, Pastor of Calvary Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Rowan Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at Summersett Funeral Home on Thursday (Sept 11), 6-8 PM.
