Norma Jean Lewis

Norma Jean Lewis, 92, of Salisbury, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 3, 2021 with her family present. Born November 20, 1928 in Wise County, Virginia she was the daughter of the late Wesley W. Fannon and Nancy Alice Lane Fannon. She grew up in the mountains of the western tip of Virginia, a coal miner's daughter, 1 of 12 children. She knew that education was the key to her way out of poverty. Through sheer determination, she managed to fulfill that dream after she married and had 3 children, graduating with a master's degree in speech pathology. Her second dream of traveling was also met with the love of her life, husband of 52 years Charles R. Lewis, having traveled the world over and all of the USA, especially the dream of visiting the Holy Lands and Egypt. Norma was very generous and loved the Lord, her family, friends, bridge (and all card games), travel and cooking, in that order! She will be missed by her loving family and friends, especially during the holidays, which she truly loved. Norma was preceded in death by her beloved husband Charles R. Lewis and daughter Jean Marie Williamson. Survivors are daughter Deborah (Dan) Fowler of Salisbury; daughter Karen (Paul) Brunette of Sarasota, Fla.; granddaughters Kara (Gavin) Jones of Richmond, Va., Melinda (Will) Hege of Salisbury and Jessica Brunette of Sarasota, Fla., and Miriam (Jonathan) Lusambo of Pinehurst, NC; and grandsons Chris (Wendy) Brunette of Jacksonville, Fla. and Charles Williamson of Lincoln, Neb.; and including 4 great-grandchildren, Bailey Miron, Grace and Malachi Lusambo and Sophie Brunette; last surviving sister, Barbara Marrero; and several nieces and nephews. A very special thank-you to Judie Lowman and Trellis Hospice for their wonderful care. A memorial service will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 6, 2021 at First Presbyterian Church of Salisbury with Rev. Randy Kirby officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at The Gables.
