Max Gardner Grant

Max Gardner Grant, formerly of Salisbury, passed away on April 9, 2026, at the age of 95. He was born in Iredell County on February 18, 1931, and was the youngest child of the late Franklin Marion Grant and Velma Sell Grant. He had been residing at the Mallard Ridge Assistive Living & Memory Care Facility in Clemmons, NC since December of 2023. Max was a 1950 graduate of Woodleaf High School. In January of 1950, he eloped with fellow classmate Joyce Williams. In September of 1952, his married life was disrupted when he was drafted and sent to Korea to serve in the army. After returning from service, they raised four children together and enjoyed 71 years of marriage. Max was a mechanical engineer and was last employed as Vice-President of Burton Mechanical in Salisbury. He was an active member of Franklin Presbyterian Church from 1958 until his health declined. After his retirement, he enjoyed gardening and had a large garden every summer. Much of the produce he raised was shared with friends and neighbors. Many days were spent on the family farmland in Woodleaf where he could often be found on his tractor and tending to larger crops. He loved watching old western movies, football, and baseball games on tv and was a fan of the Carolina Panthers. He loved tinkering with old radios, televisions, and other electronics and could fix almost anything. Max was preceded in death by his wife Joyce Williams Grant who passed away in August of 2021. He was also preceded in death by brothers Clyde Grant and Roby Grant Sr, as well as sisters Opal Hurst and Juanita Brantley. He is survived by two sons Gary Grant (Vicki) of Hodges, SC and Kevin Grant (Laura) of Salisbury, two daughters Donna Woods (Frank) of Boliva, and Carol McCorkle (Clay) of Lexington, thirteen grandchildren, and 23 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews, including Joe Grant, who was raised in the home by his parents and was like a little brother to Max. A graveside service will be held at 3:00 pm on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, at Franklin Presbyterian Church, 280 Franklin Church Dr. Salisbury, NC. The Reverend Keith Reid will be officiating the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Franklin Presbyterian Church, 280 Franklin Church Dr, Salisbury, NC 28147.
