Ms. Mary Katherine "Kathy" Smith

Mary Katherine “Kathy” Smith, 60, of Salisbury passed away peacefully Saturday, December 10, 2016 at the Glenn A. Kiser Hospice House surrounded by family and friends. Born June 24, 1956 in Rowan County, she was the daughter of John Lee and Dollie Lineberry Smith. She attended Spencer Elementary School in her primary years and was a 1974 graduate of North Rowan High School. Kathy was a member of Calvary Baptist Church at Ellis Cross Rds., where she was a member of the youth choir in her younger years, the adult choir, assistant GA leader and made flowers for the church. She was a member of Ellis Volunteer Fire Department. Kathy coached cheerleading for the Rowan County Youth Football League in the mid-80’s. She was a member of the North Rowan Elementary PTA, was a big supporter of the North Rowan Cavaliers and the Spencer Little League Baseball teams. She loved singing and making crafts. Previously in Kings Highway and Saved by Grace Gospel Groups. Her favorite thing of all was watching her grandson, Kolby, play baseball and football and her granddaughter, Ty’Tiana in dance. She also enjoyed Karaoke with friends. She was preceded in death by her brother, John Lee Smith, II, maternal grandparents, Henry Lee Lineberry and Virginia Deaton Lineberry, and paternal grandparents, John C. Smith and Katherine Lee Watkins Smith. In addition to her parents, she is survived by a son, Chip Wells (Crystal) of Salisbury; daughter, Christy Wells, grandchildren, Kolby Smith and Ty’Tiana Clemons of the home, Desiree Artz of China Grove, Grey Reavis (Ashley) of Georgia and Cole Reavis of Salisbury; great grandchild, Emmalia Reavis; brother, Jimmy Smith (Rhonda) of Salisbury; three nephews, Chris Smith of Charlotte, Jake and Ethan Smith of Salisbury. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Tuesday (Dec. 13) at Summersett Funeral Home, and at other times the family will be at the home of her parents Funeral services will be conducted 1 PM – Wednesday (Dec. 14) at Life Church with the Rev. Chris Shelton and Rev. Rick Trexler, officiating. Ms. Smith will lie in state 30 minutes before the service. Interment will follow at Rowan Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family request a donation of an unwrapped gifts for Toys For Tots.
