Martha Sue Hopkins

Martha Sue (Julian) Hopkins was called home to be with our Lord on October 14, 2021 at the age of 88 years young, surrounded by her loving family, who will continue to honor her legacy by living their lives to the fullest. She will be remembered as a woman of God, devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was born in Rowan County, on March 23, 1933, to Everett and Lula Julian. Shortly after meeting on a blind date, she married the love of her life, Worth Hopkins on November 15, 1952. Worth was a dashing and proud military man who immediately won heart. Together, with three daughters, they traveled and lived in places as far away as Hawaii, New York City, and many places in between. Worth and Martha were married for 50 years. Numerous times during their marriage, oldest daughter, Karen, would spy on her parents at night, to find the two of them dancing in the living room. Martha was the loving family Matriarch. She was bold, fearless, an avid supporter of Veterans, Veterans' rights, lobbied Congress on the behalf of all veterans, the United States Flag, often a volunteer at the VA hospital with her husband, a wonderful friend known for her witty sense of humor. She was a member of numerous Veterans organizations, both local and State. Anyone who knew her was blessed by her presence. Her kindness was contagious, and her personality unforgettable. She was a devoted Christian and a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family. Martha, together with her husband, loved nothing more than planning a grand celebration or party with family and friends. An evening spent sharing the perfect cocktail and playing cards at home with friends, was invariably appreciated by all who participated. She was known for her patriotism and the legendary 4th of July gatherings she and Worth planned. To her, strangers were simply friends she hadn’t met… yet. Martha, the adoring wife to Worth and loving mother to Karen, Genine, and Julia. She will forever be cherished by five grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. She was greeted in Heaven by her beloved husband, Worth (Hoppy) Hopkins, much-loved daughter, Genine Elizabeth Hopkins-Miller, parents Everett and Lula Julian, and brothers Bobby Livengood , Everett (Junior), Charles, and William (Bill) Julian. Those left to cherish her memory, daughters Karen Hyde-Augusta (husband Captain Mike) and Julia Leach (husband Fred.) Her much adored grandchildren, Tiffany Coates, Jillian Mauldin Gunter, Caitlin Elizabeth (Caity Beth) Mauldin (Christopher Faavesi), Jessica Leach Ritchie, John F. Leach (April.) Her beloved Great-grandchildren, Bartholomew (Bart) Kelly, Reese Gunter, Maverick Faavesi, Bailey Faavesi, Caity Faavesi, Christopher Worth Ritchie, Adam Thompson, Natalie Leach, Jacob Leach, Austin Leach, and Trinity Leach Brothers, Ross D. Julian (Betty) and Jimmy Lee Julian (Carol.) Along with many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends 1-2 p.m. Friday (October 22nd) at Summerett Funeral Home. A memorial service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. in Summersett Memorial Chapel with Rev. Mark Ryman, Pastor of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will follow at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Legion, National Headquarters, Donation Processing, P.O.
