Kenneth Earl "Ken" Bryan

Kenneth Earl “Ken” Bryan, 83, of Salisbury, NC passed away Thursday, February 2, 2023, at Novant Health Rowan Medical Center. Born March 28, 1939, in Wayne County, NC, he was the son of the late John Earl Bryan and Ola Mae Jernigan. Ken was a graduate of Grantham High School, class of 1957. He earned an undergraduate degree at Atlantic Christian College (Barton College), a master’s degree in engineering from North Carolina State University, and Belmont Textile School of Engineering. In his early career, he coached baseball and taught mathematics at Oak City High School and Oxford High School. Ken was very accomplished in many fields including the textile and furniture manufacturing industry. Ken was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather to his family. He was a devout Christian and very involved in his local church, First Baptist of Salisbury, where he served on Meals on Wheels, he coached and mentored in the Upward Basketball program for 10 years, served as chairman of the deacons and trustee, a member of the Baptist Men’s group, volunteered in the Men’s Rehabilitation Program and was a member of the local Gideon’s chapter. Along with his parents John Earl Bryan and Ola Mae Bryan, preceding him in death is his first wife, Kay Martin Bryan. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Flora Griffin Bryan; four children, Nelle B. Haywood (Lynn) of Pleasant Garden, Edie B. Horne (Anthony) of Gastonia, Kenneth E. Bryan, II (Renee) of Purlear and Angela B. Gilbert (Justin) of Eliot, Maine; sisters, Nellie Bryan Jinnette and Gail Bryan Darden. Also surviving are ten grandchildren, Adam, Seth, Trey, Alex, Jackie, Mich, Cooper, Kaylee, Ozzie and Harper; ten great-grandchildren, Leighney, Scarlett, Jocelyn, Silas, Joseph, Cason, Paxton, Noah, Marlee, and Iris; step children, Glenn Lee (Monique) and Mary Elizabeth Lee; step grandchildren, Spencer, Graison, Bobbiann, Michaeyla, Erin, Evan, and Shelley ; step great-grandchildren, Chandler, Braden and Dylan . The family will receive friends from 12-12:45 PM in the First Baptist Church Sancturay. A Memorial service celebrating Ken’s life will be held at 1PM, Monday, February 6, 2023 at First Baptist Church of Salisbury with Rev. Jonathan DeBell officiating.
