Mrs. Karen Nesbit Overcash

Mrs. Karen Nesbit Overcash, 64, of Salisbury passed away Saturday, October 10, 2015 at her residence. Born June 20, 1951 in Concord, she was the daughter of the late Lillian Curlee Nesbit and Ralph Edward Nesbit, Sr. Mrs. Overcash was educated in the Rowan school system and graduated from South Rowan High School. She received her BA degree in Education from Appalachian State University. She subsequently received her Masters in Education, and her Principal Certification from the University of North Carolina – Charlotte. She was a teacher that taught at Cleveland Elementary School, West Rowan Middle School, North Rowan Middle School and East Rowan High School before retiring. Mrs. Overcash was a member of the North Carolina Association of Educators, NC Council of Social Studies, St. Peter’s Lutheran Church and she was a member of the Salisbury Ski Club. She was an avid supporter of the Rowan County Humane Society and the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Larry Wayne Overcash on August 20, 1993, and a brother, Ralph Edward Nesbitt, Jr. Karen loved people and had an uncanny ability to make new friends. She always made friends and family feel special and loved. As a teacher she was actively involved in student initiatives and enhanced the lives of thousands of students. She enjoyed movies, art, travel, music and dancing. Her favorite things were going to the beach and spending time with family and friends on her home patio. Those left to cherish her memory are her sons, Dr. J. Scott Overcash and fiancé, Michelle Carcel of San Diego, CA and Justin Phillip Overcash of Davidson; sister, Diane Nesbit Rivers and husband Ray of China Grove; brother, Robert Phillip Nesbit and wife Peggy of Eden; her cherished pets, Sugar and Brittany and dear friend and caregiver, Dawn Holshouser. The family will receive friends from 7-9 PM, Friday (Oct. 16) at the Summersett Funeral Home. A memorial service will be conducted 2 PM - Saturday (Oct. 17) at Grace Lutheran Church with the Rev. Jerome Cloninger officiating.
