Joseph "Joe" Junior Spry

Mr. Joseph “Joe” Junior Spry, 88, of Salisbury, NC, went to be with his heavenly Father Wednesday, November 17, 2010 at his residence. Born July 18, 1922 in Davie County, he was the son of the late Bessie Safley and Joseph Franklin Spry. Mr. Spry was a graduate of Coolemee High School and attended several naval schools. He retired from Norfolk Naval Air Station where he worked on F14 Tomcats and other various aircraft. Mr. Spry was a US Navy Pearl Harbor survivor and fought battles in the World War II Pacific Theatre. He was a member of the Pearl Harbor Survivors Association, VFW, American Legion 342, and the Bojangles Biscuit Club. He was a member of Fisher St. Baptist Church. He was an avid golfer and member of GARS. Mr. Spry is preceded in death by his first wife, Sara Blanton Spry; daughter, Carol Jean Spry; brothers, Bruce Spry, Jim Spry; sisters, Margaret Brown, Helen Snider, Elizabeth Richkus, and Lois Munday. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 46 years, Elizabeth “Lib” Crater Spry; sons, Ronnie Spry of Salisbury, NC, Joey Spry and wife Jeana of Faith, NC, and David Sheets and wife Viv of Tavares, FL; daughters, Karen Veno and husband Joe of Fredericksburg, Virginia, Frankie Todd and husband Ted of Pfafftown, NC, and Patricia Coppino and husband John of Virginia Beach, VA; brothers, Lewis R. Spry of Albemarle, NC; sister, Betty S. Patterson of Mocksville, NC; eleven grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren; and special friend Elwood Bringle. Visitation will be held Sunday, November 21, 2010 from 2-3:30PM at Summersett Funeral Home. Funeral service will follow at 3:30 PM in the Summersett Memorial Chapel with Rev. Joey Spry of Fisher St. Baptist Church and Rev. Roger Bostic of New Hope Freewill Baptist officiating. Burial with military honors will be conducted Monday, November 22, 2010 at 10:00 AM at the US National Cemetery, Statesville Blvd. location. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Fisher Street Baptist Church, 810 Fisher St., Concord, NC 28027. Summersett Funeral Home, located at 1315 W.
