Joseph Crouch Leab

Mr. Joseph Crouch Leab, 83, of Cleveland, NC died on Wednesday (May 20) at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte, NC. Born on October 17, 1925 in Rowan County to the late J. J. and Bessie Christie Leab. He was educated in the Rowan County schools and attended Cleveland High School. He was a veteran of the US Navy during World War II and served on the USS Columbia. Mr. Leab operated Leab’s Store at Barber Junction from 1946-1962 and worked for the U.S. Postal Service from 1958 until Feb. 2, 1985. when he retired. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Cleveland, and attended the Cleveland United Methodist Church. He was also a member of the Hudson-Miller-Tatum V.F.W. Post 3006, Kennedy Hall American Legion Post 106, the Rural Letter Carrier Association, and a former member of the American Legion Baseball Committee. Mr. Leab was preceded in death by his first wife, Mildred Hall Leab on February 19, 1992, sisters, Margaret Leab Ludwig, Martha Leab Rufty, and Sadie Leab Lawrence. He is survived by his wife, Marjorie Leab, whom he married November 25, 2001; sons Roger Jay Leab and wife Rebecca of King, NC and Billy Max Leab and wife Bobbie of Advance, NC; daughter Millie Jean Leab Nesbit and husband Joel of Woodleaf; step-son, Robert Lowery and wife Nita of Charlotte; sisters, Pauline Leab Shuping of Salisbury, NC and Lola Leab Floss of Salisbury; grandchildren, Christopher Leab and wife Kristy of Pfafftown, Andy Leab and wife Yvonne of Pfafftown, Josh Leab of Raleigh; step-grandchildren Eddie Fulk of King, and Keith Fulk and wife Dianne of Pinnacle; great grandchildren, Taylor, Chandler and Isabella Leab; step-great grandchildren, Kenneth and Hannah Fulk. Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 PM – Saturday at the Summersett Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Shirley Jones, minister of Cleveland United Methodist Church and Rev. J. B. Whitfield, minister of Agape Faith Church, Clemmons officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. An interment service will be conducted 11:00 AM – Tuesday at the US National Cemetery, Government Rd. with Military Graveside Rites conducted by the Rowan County Veterans Honor Guard.
