Mr. John Holloway Veach

Mr. John Holloway Veach, 90, of Salisbury, NC passed away Sunday, August 2, 2015 at Liberty Commons Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. Born March 9, 1925 in Rowan Co, NC to the late Mary Spence Veach and Ulysses Sidney Veach, he was educated in the Rowan County Schools. Mr. Veach served in the U.S. Army as a Combat Infantryman. He was wounded in Anzio, Italy and earned the Purple Heart and a Bronze Star. After the war he returned and worked as a Military Policeman. Later he worked as a supervisor with NC Finishing Company for over 35 years. Mr. Veach was a charter member of the Spencer Moose Lodge where he enjoyed playing cards and billiards with “the boys” and a member of the VFW Post #3006. As an honored Veteran he was proud to have been selected to participate on the last Rowan County Rotary District 7680 “Flight of Honor” to Washington D.C. to see the WWII War Memorial. In his earlier years he was an avid fisherman and gardener. Preceding him in death was his wife Grace Propst Veach in 2010; sisters, Ruby Menster and Carrie Veach; brothers, Julius Veach and Sidney Veach; and grandchildren, Sonya Ellenburg and Kenny Ellenburg. Surviving is his son, Gary W. Veach and wife Lisa of Salisbury, NC; daughter, Connie Ellenburg Fox and husband Tony of Salisbury, NC; brothers, George Veach and wife Ann of Rockwell, NC and Larry Veach and wife Glennis of Salisbury, NC; grandchildren Bryan Ellenburg, Jeffrey Shannon Veach, and Laurel Julian; great-granddaughters Payton Veach and Maggie Ellenburg; numerous nieces and nephews; and a very special friend Geri Barber. The family will receive friends from 9-10 AM Wednesday (Aug 5) at Summersett Funeral Home. A graveside funeral service with military honors conducted by Rowan County Veteran Honor Guard will be held at 10 AM Wed at Rowan Memorial Park; conducted by Rev. Gene Beaver, Minister of Crown Pointe Baptist Church. The family would like to say thank you to caregivers at Liberty Commons and Carillon Assisted Living for their loving care of Mr. Veach. Also a special thank you to Dianne Scott for her help and companionship.
