John Lewis Rusher III

John Lewis Rusher III, 70, of Denton, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of March 11, 2025 after a courageous battle with Glioblastoma, brain cancer. John was born on March 16, 1954 in Rock Hill, SC and was the son of the late John Lewis Rusher Jr. and Rachel Pickler Rusher. He is also predeceased by his beloved wife, Robbie L. Rusher. John grew up in Charlotte, NC, attending Mecklenburg County Schools, where he played golf, football, and saxophone (proud member of the North Mecklenburg Blue Notes). Afterward, he attended UNC Chapel Hill and earned his BS in Industrial Relations. Following graduation in 1976, he accepted a marketing and sales job that led him to travel all over North America. During this time, he met the love of his life, Robbie. John and Robbie wed in the winter of 1983 and in 1985 had their daughter, Savannah. John and Robbie lived in Indiana, along the coasts of Florida and South Carolina before happily retiring on High Rock Lake in Denton, NC. John truly loved being on the water, boating and fishing. When he wasn’t hitting a golf ball, his happy place was with his family. John was an incredible father, friend, entrepreneur and compassionate caregiver to his wife until her death from Alzheimer’s in July 2024. He committed fully to everything he did and everyone he connected with. He was often the glue that brought everyone together. We will greatly miss his handsome smirk and kind heart. Left to cherish his memory is his daughter, Savannah Rusher; brothers, Jeff Rusher, Joey Rusher: sister, Bonnie Tinsley. Sincere gratitude for everyone who helped John and our family through this difficult year. We couldn’t have done it without the compassion and support of Home Instead, Hospice of Davidson County, Brain Tumor Network and our family, friends, and neighbors. Endless love and appreciation to his sister, Bonnie Tinsley. A celebration of both John and Robbie’s lives will be held Saturday, March 22, 2025 at Summersett Funeral Home. A visitation will take place at 1pm and a memorial service will follow at 2pm. A private interment will occur at a later date.
