John Austin Carter, Jr.

John Austin Carter Jr. died suddenly at his Lake Norman home on August 5th, 2012. He was born in Salisbury, NC on March 29, 1954 to John Carter and the late Shirley Ann Greta Carter. His father and stepmother, Boots Carter of Linville, NC and Vero Beach, FL, survive him, along with his aunt and uncle, Paul and Lois Carter, six loving sisters, sixteen nieces/nephews and one great-niece. His sisters are Lyn Hadden of Needham, MA, Jan Brady of Far Hills, NJ, Mimi Stickley of Vero Beach, FL, Jennie Fry of Windermere, FL, Wendy Fowler and Gwin Barr, both of Salisbury, NC. Johnny attended Salisbury High School before finishing at The McCallie School in Chattanooga, TN in 1972. He then went to Florida Southern College in Lakeland, FL where he earned his BA degree in two years. He held several sales positions at both Carter Chair and Carolina Color Corporations early in his career. For the last twenty years, he has been the managing partner of Carter Properties, a commercial real estate venture. Johnny loved the Lord with all his heart and soul. He was devoted to his church, The Cove, in Mooresville, where he was both a founding member and played in The Cove Band. He also played with his church-affiliated Celebrate Recovery Band for many years. Johnny had a heart for church start-ups and was most recently the sound technician for Cove Kids at their Statesville, NC location. His passion for music continued throughout his life; he played with many bands, the last of which was the Dust Bunnies of Charlotte. He was an avid sportsman who loved water skiing, hiking and cross-county motorcycle trips. Johnny changed lives and he will be dearly missed. A visitation will be held at the Barr home, 19 Pine Tree Rd in Salisbury on Wednesday, August 8th, from 5:00-7:00 p.m.. A Celebration of Life service will be held Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at The Cove Church, Mooresville, NC, with Johnny's dear friend, the Rev. Mike Madding, officiating. There will be a gathering of family and friends at The Cove Church immediately following the service. Burial will be in Salisbury after the service at the Cove Church.
