Jean Dameron

Norma Jean Wetmore Dameron, 99, of Chattanooga, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 19, 2026. Born in Somerset, KY April 22, 1927 to Hebe and Leitha Wetmore. Jean attended grades one through twelve at Woodleaf School before continuing her education at Bob Jones University; she later graduated from Catawba College. Jean served as the director of Changed Lives Ministry, where she faithfully shared her compassion and commitment to helping others. She was the oldest member of Unity Presbyterian Church, where she sang in the choir and served in leadership roles. She embraced life with enthusiasm and gratitude. A member of the Racquet Club of Hixson, Jean enjoyed playing tennis, tending her garden, and spending time with friends and loved ones; above all, she treasured her family and the many memories they created together. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ralph Dameron; two grandchildren, Darah Dameron Card and Deric Horton; her parents, Hebe and Leitha Wetmore; and her sisters, Mary Ann Means, Carolyn Ebright, and Janie Bowers. Survivors include her sons: David Dameron (Shirley), Danny Dameron (Debbie), and Donald Dameron (Susan); her grandchildren: Drew Dameron (Laurel), Dale Dameron (Heather), and Derek Dameron; her grandson-in-law, Bryan Card; her sister, Lynn Shumaker (Alex); her brother, Sam Wetmore; seven great-grandchildren; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins. The family extends its heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate caregivers of Hearth Hospice, especially Ashley, and to the staff of Charter Senior Living, with special thanks to Kendra, Star, Angie, Jennifer, and April for the exceptional care, kindness, and support they provided to Norma Jean and her family. The family will receive friends 4:00 – 7:00 pm Friday, July 24, 2026 at Summersett Funeral Home and 2:00 – 3:30 pm on Saturday, July 25, 2026 at Unity Presbyterian Church with a service at 3:30 pm. Interment will follow in Unity Presbyterian Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a donation be made in her memory to Unity Presbyterian Church, P O Box 28, Woodleaf, NC 27054.
