Mr. James Baxter Graham

James Baxter “J.B.” Graham, 84, passed away February 20, 2016 at NC State Veterans Home, Salisbury. Born February 5, 1932 in Rowan County, he was the son of the late Joseph Graham and Cora Lee Rex Graham. J.B. was a graduate of Mt. Ulla High School. A veteran of the United States Army, J.B. served during the Korean War. His military decorations include the Korean Service Medal with 1 Bronze Service Star, the United Nations Service Medal, and the National Defense Service Medal. After serving in the Army, J.B. married Gladys McDaniel Graham on September 23, 1955. J.B. was employed by Hoechst Celanese and retired in 1994. He was a member of Salem Lutheran Church and enjoyed surf fishing on the North Carolina coast. In addition to his parents J.B. is preceded in death by his son, Douglas Ray Graham, brothers Homer, Buddy, Hayden, Grady, Larry “Pee Wee” and Garland Graham and his sister, Elsie Graham Kirk. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of over 60 years, Gladys M. Graham, son Gary L. Graham and wife, Angela of Salisbury; daughter-in-law, Sandy L. Graham of Salisbury; granddaughters Amanda Dunn of Florida, Ashley Graham Phipps and husband Devin of Winston-Salem, and Lauren Graham of Salisbury. He is also survived by three great-grandchildren, Taylor Westmoreland, Kyndle Westmoreland, and Tyler Westmoreland and by his sister, Shirley Graham Cranfield of Salisbury and numerous nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be conducted at 2 PM – Tuesday (Feb. 23) at Salem Lutheran Church Cemetery with Rev. Clarence Sifford and Rev. Marty Ramey officiating. Military Graveside Rites will be conducted by the Rowan County Veterans Honor Guard and the NC National Guard. The family will receive friends following the graveside service in the Church Parlor. Memorials made be made to Salem Lutheran Church Cemetery Fund, 5080 Sherrills Ford Road, Salisbury, NC 28147 The family is sincerely grateful to Dr. Chet Amin, Tiffany Ingold, PA-C and Lauren Graham, PA-C and the staffs of Trinity Oaks, NC State Veterans Home and PruittHealth Hospice for the professional and extraordinary care given to J.B.
