James Edgar Fleming

James Edgar Fleming, 97, of Club Drive, Salisbury, NC died on October, 21st 2014, at Trinity Oaks in Salisbury. Born on September 17, 1917, in Davie County, he was the son of the late David Jurney and Ozie McDaniel Fleming. He retired after thirty-three years as owner of Towne Hardware and Appliance in Hollywood, Florida, where he lived until he moved to Salisbury. He was a valued and faithful member of Saint Paul’s Episcopal Church in Salisbury where he was very generous with his time and talents restoring the church’s woodwork and stained glass. Mr. Fleming was preceded in death by his first wife, Melverine Boger, his second wife, Judy Vechitto Cannata, and his third wife, Mary Jo DeMayo. He was also preceded in death by five brothers, Mitchell, Gene, Martin, Junie, and William Fleming; and four sisters, Mae Buie, Annie Grubb, Pauline Moorefield and Dora Dean Jones. Also preceding him in death was a granddaughter, Lisa Troxler Chmielewski and son-in-law, David Troxler, step-sons Anthony and Richard Cannata. Surviving Mr. Fleming are; daughter, Jewell Troxler, grandson, Russell Troxler and great-grandsons, twins; David and Matthew Troxler - all of Reidsville, NC, as well as granddaughters; Anna Troxler of High Point, NC and Emily (Ben) Hamilton of Reidsville, NC. Also surviving are Kathleen Cannata (wife of Richard Cannata) who has been his faithful companion and caretaker for the last seven years. Her children; Jess (Lucie ) Cannata, David (Leticia) Cannata, Aaron (Janice) Cannata and Christine (Duane) Warner; step-son, John DeMayo of California and Anthony (Cecilia) DeMayo and children of Oregon and many grand and great grands also survive. Mr. Fleming was a Mason and came into the Masonry thru the Hollywood Lodge #209 in Hollywood, Florida. He was raised a Master Mason on June 11, 1962. Locally he was a member of Andrew Jackson Lodge #576. He was a York Rites and Scottish Rites Mason and a member of the Shrine and the Shrine Motorcycle Corp in Hollywood, FL Mr.Fleming loved to travel and he and Judy enjoyed trips around the world and especially to Europe and Italy, Judy’s family homeland. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM – Wednesday (Oct. 29) at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church with the Reverend Richard A. Williams, officiating. Visitation will be in the Parrish Hall 10-11 AM before the service. Interment will follow at Rowan Memorial Park with Masonic Graveside rites conducted by the members of Andrew Jackson Lodge. The family would like to offer a special thanks to Grace Jones, his special nurse, Dr. Myron Goodman, Jr. a long-time friend and physican, and his staff, Marvin Yost and Carol Bruno and his St. Paul’s family, Larry and Linda Phillips, Mr. & Mrs. Jesse Burgess.
