Helena Garnet Persinger Vedeikis

Helena Garnet Persinger Vedeikis, 76, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Friday, April 24. Born October 19, 1949, in Pond Gap, West Virginia, she was the youngest child of Edward and Mary Persinger. Helena graduated from Oak Hill High School in 1967 and later moved to Gahanna, Ohio, where she met her beloved husband, Alfred Vedeikis. They married in 1969 and shared a devoted marriage until his passing in 2024. Together they built a life centered on family, raising their three daughters. A dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother, Helena was known for her creativity, warmth, and unwavering support of her family. She served as a Girl Scout leader, classroom volunteer, and was always present for her children’s milestones. She later worked at Rose’s corporate headquarters, Food Lion, LLC, and Novant Medical Center. Helena was proud to earn her college degree from Catawba College in 2001, becoming the first in her family to do so. She also loved to travel, exploring destinations across the United States and abroad, including cruises to Alaska and the Caribbean, and trips to Europe. She was a loving grandmother to Caralena Rose, Nolan, Mary Alivia, Chloe, and Leora, and cherished every moment spent with them. Helena was also known for her kindness, welcoming spirit, and the lasting friendships she built throughout her life, including a lifelong bond with her dear friend Sandy Altier Finley. Helena was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred; her parents and her parents-in-law Alfonsas & Sofija Vedeikis. She is survived by her daughters, Michele, Erica, and Amy; her grandchildren; her sisters Maryetta Henley, Jewel (Harriell) Watson, and Genevive Bowe. and many nieces and nephews. Her faith in God was steadfast, and her family takes comfort in knowing she is now reunited in Heaven with those she loved. The family will receive friends from 4:30-6 PM Tuesday (April 28) at Summersett Funeral Home with a memorial service following at 6 PM in Summersett Memorial Chapel.
